I recently rewatched Dark City, the film from 1998, and noticed certain parallels between it and Baldur's Gate III.

Both feature worm/octopi things inhabiting a host. In Dark City, they only inhabit dead corpses, while in Baldur's Gate III, they only inhabit the living. Both stories involve people who are abducted and forced into some kind of experiment beyond their comprehension. Most are oblivious to what has truly happened to them, but there's an individual or a small group who are aware of it and able to take action outside this plan. The protagonist develops the same telekinetic/psychic powers as its abductors, but is not like its abductors and still is able to possibly thwart them.

In that case I hope Shadowhearts alter-ego turns out to be not a brianwashed Selunite priestess, but a smoky night-club torch singer.

Edit: Who's Brian? Is that the disapproving Illithids name? I meant brainwashed of course eek laugh
