All fans of BG1&2 as well as D&D Your opinions and objective criticism is requested

What else should change about BG3 to make you as a fan of both of the above mentioned games happy?

Have fun with this thread

Dont think 1 single thread can handle all the different opinions that you are asking for wink
Add Day and light cycle. If Solasta a company of 17 people can do that I hope Larian can too. It felt immersive to see the days changes in Solasta and fighting at night was more dangerous.
Day and night cycle, seems strange not to have it in a bg. Also, random encounters/attacks at camp when trying to rest would be good.
Basically.... a closer implementation of 5e rules, that only deviates where necessary.

Don't get me wrong, I like the game but it's not really D&D with all the unnecessary deviations from 5e. Things like a day/night cycle and random encounters would be great, of course, but I can see why they didn't do it.
There are many things to change but I really think Larian can do it !
Here are a few important things to me

- More D&D and/or less DoS
-- surfaces
-- bonus action (jump, shove, advantages,...)
-- monsters abilities
-- improved (or just "good") resting system
-- no dipping
--...

- More BG and/or less DoS
-- way more companions, I don't care about origins being playable
-- better UI (actually very random)
-- increased party size (6 is better, 5 is ok...)
-- D/N cycle
-- character selection/movement
-- ammo management
-- ...

More FR and/or less DoS
- consistent bestiary
- consistent locations
- consistent visual effects/animations
Wow, in one thread? You are a brave... person. wink

1) Proper party control/managment. Let us control all party members at once, not only the currently selected one who the others are "chained" to... proper selection and formations.
2) Portraits should be right clickable to open inventory, and we should be able to cast/use items on portraits.
3) ... general, proper inventory management.
4) Ammunition and other resources.
5) Day/night cycle, fog of war.
6) Overworld map with random encounters and respawning monsters/randomized encounters on area maps.
7) Custom hirelings/mercenaries to replace party members.
8) Proper camping system with characters/hirelings filling certain roles, like hunting for rations, guard duty and crafting.
9) Proper implementation of 5e combat. Dial down on the surface effects and bonus actions. Stick to MM.
10) Keep classes distinct.
11) Proper 5e skill rules imp mentation. Use the D&D loot tables.
12) More detailed, "realistic" handling of gear (no floating swords!)
13) ...and so on, and so on, and so on.

you mean this?
1. get rid of surfaces and barrelmancy
2. get rid of every enemy having ludicrous amounts of grenades and/or hitpoints
3. get rid of playable origin characters that also double as companions
4. get rid of the "evil has to be chaotic stupid" mindset
5. get rid of the "combat is more important than story/dialogues" mindset (why no xp for non-combat options)
6. get rid of the gazillion (mostly empty) containers

+1

Only one I dont have that much of an issue with is #3. I think Larian kinda likes their origin characters and honestly they dont bother me that much.

The rest. So much this laugh

*cough**cough*the name*cough*

or dropping the 3 and adding a nice fat subtitle.
BG:3 will earn the 3 in the title by unveiling that Jaheira is behind the Absolute plot in order to save her former companion CHARNAME, who stayed/became mortal (again), from to a divine plot against her/him.

You will be able to import a final ToB save and either join, or oppose, Jaheira and CHARNAME in an ultimate fight over redemption, love and divine ascension.
I think the game is already heading in a very good direction. The only thing I lament is the party size limit. Four characters make a fight doable, but six characters make it a party.

No, because I don't read books. Well, at least not books about video games (although I was looking forward to the Tetris movies). And this is about video games, this is about player's agency, this is about importing your very own CHARNAME, and then, like, killing him off before he ascends as the new god of murder again, if he happens to be evil and the PC is good. Or vice versa.

This is about connecting the dots, about earning the 3 in BG:3.

Oh, and I would also like to romance Jaheira, again.

this game couldnt get me as BG1 & 2. The camera prevents me from getting into ti :c

Haha, with you there. wink

I got what you meant, it was a joke...

...and it's CHARNAME's canon name according to the 5e module "Murder in Baldur's Gate", which was a prequel to "Descent into Avernus", which was the prequel to BG3... f*** the novels.
More D&D, less DOS.

However, looking at previous Larian EA, I think we can expect them to dig their heels in on the decisions they have already made, so I don't expect us to get any changes in this area.

Also, the BG novelizations are widely regarded as some of the worst fantasy books ever written.

That people flaunt hem as "canon" is disappointing.
"You must gather your party before venturing forth"

This is a staple of Baldur's gate wink

and is actually impossible in BG3. There is no "gather" process.

Hehe. Did you, or anyone else, ever feel like a heel romancing Jaheira given that she is a grieving widow? She's definitely one of the best cRPG romances of all-time, but I always feel a little dirty for doing it.

Come on. Khalid would never have made her happy, or CHARNAME, with his lack of strength and such. She was already accustomed to his death from BG:1. He always somehow walked into some gnolls or something around the Friendly Arms Inn, without his armor and his weapons even! CHARNAME did not even want to romance her at the beginning, only be her emotional support. But then he always somehow said and did the right things, including resting outside at the right time, only to be ambushed by the only somewhat competent ambushers in the whole game, and offered himself as a hostage to save her life. And despite all her initial doubts, they ended up literally going to hell and back together.

Aaanyway...dudes, you have to earn the 3 in BG:3. It has to be more than just stuff taking place in the vicinity of the city.
The one major change that would make BG3 much better for me, would be a significantly more faithful implementation of 5E D&D in the game than is there presently. That alone would clear up 90% of any issue i have with BG3.
