First off, ALL my characters are next to each other and properly grouped.
If Asterion is lead, everybody follows him. If he is not lead, he wont follow.
there are various odd combos in my current party of who will/wont follow who.
Seems that the whole following system is glitched.
I have tried grouping and and grouping with both the button and by dragging portraits around with no success.
