Are you meant to just slaughter other parties for the xp ? I was happy I passed the checks and modifiers to avoid violence outside the crypt to other adventurers so after I do convince them they just leave without an iota of xp to show for the effort.

Hmm. For some reason, I thought that encounter did award xp. It doesn't?

Anyway. I can't say it bothers me either way, though. Mostly because there's so much excess xp in EA. That said, in full release I would certainly hope the non-violent resolution awarded a proper amount of xp.

I think it does award xp, but the amount gained isn't shown on screen in the usual way.
However, when I checked my total xp after successfully scaring them off, I seem to have gotten xp applied that weren't shown in game. Might have been my imagination though... wink

You get xp, you don't, however, get a shovel.

So I always take the reasonable comment about just passing through and let the idiots attack me.

I don't even like the stupid burried treasure system, but I'm a sucker for being a completionist.

I guess there are other ways to get a shovel.
Killing a group of people just for a shovel sounds very extreme.

Why?

It's no worse than killing Astarion for his clothes, which I do in every playthrough. smile

I don't kill people for a shovel. Tav is walking around dazed after a crash landing, he walks up to some people who harass him, he says "sorry I'm just passing through", they then attack him for no reason, he defends himself and... In the process acquires a shovel.

Vampire spawns ain’t people.

You kill a monster, you get loot.

This is simply not true. There is a shovel laying on the ground in that exact location. So you can just scare away those guys.

Along the pathway with goblin traps (before your first goblin fight) there is both a shovel and somewhere to try digging something up.
