Yea I've been having the exact same issue since Patch 8. Even if you watch the whole cut scene, it's crashes while trying to load the character creation screen. I removed all of my mods, before Patch 8. Like I do every update. Summited several crash reports. Tried both Vulcan and DirectX. Verified files through Steam. I waited for the Hotfixes, no joy. Uninstalled and Reinstalled the game twice.

My drivers are up to date. I have a couple months old Razer gaming laptop. Worked fine for Patch 7, and I was running 20+ mods then, none now.

Model Blade 15
i7-10875H CPU 230 GHz 8 Cores 16 Threads
Geforce RTX 2080 Super with Max-Q design. Driver 516.59
16 GB RAM

I spent 4 years saving to buy this laptop. I was saving for a desktop, but my old laptop (6 yrs old) was experiencing issues, like not updating anymore, and the sound card went. So I bought a laptop instead. Now the main game I bought it for, no longer works.

what worked for me:

Delete all files in Steam.

Under Users (Your User Name) AppData Local...delete Larian studios folder.

Reinstall

Get Updated mods that say patch 8

Create a new profile

associate the mods with said profile

Launch game smile

i did more further tests on this,

the most important part of getting this to work, is to delete the local larian bg3 folder, all the player profiles and the save games and settings, somewhere in there seems to be the problem,

then after i delete that

i start a new game, create a new profile, i dont change any settings i just use the default ones they give me,

and it works fine, i get to the fabled character screen..
