I agree with OP. In general magic items (e.g. +1) shouldn't litter the place. I would gladly have 50% less by having some spawning only 50% of the time (which would help replayability as well)

Ooh, while I agree there are too many magic items I’m not sure about this. Perhaps generic +1 etc items could be random loot, but I wouldn’t want this for unique items. It’d be infuriating on your bard playthrough if the great bard robe you’d seen on your barbarian run didn’t spawn. Though probably that’s not what you meant!

Actually I sort meant that in forcing the player to adapt. I am assuming in that case that the current abundance of items would open many path.

Still the more important point is not being showered in items 😉
