I entered laboratory and got the third ingredient for summoning of a ***.
I know there is a secret, and a riddle to solve here, but I do not know what to do. I found 4 coloured buttons on the north wall, but whenever I click on them, nothing happens.

I did not find any riddle text anywhere here.

Did I miss something?

Thanks in advance,
Philippe

Pressing the right combination of coloured buttons will open the locked door. I'm guessing that the "riddle" involves getting the correct combination.

Nope, the riddle is opening the door and then reporting to Bexhanar.

Spoiler : 4312 starting with red

Solution is in spoiler letters. Press your mouse and hi´ghlight.

Ok, but how do you find that combination?
Not by trial and error, I hope?

Merchant Bexhanar or mage Markunthar were supposed to give you a hint - but never did in my case. Barnie helped me - I wrote down the combo in my post above - you just have to press your mouse and drag it after the word "spoiler".

There is a note in a book one level higher at the merchant - but this combo in there is for another riddle. So, if anyone finds a note, or can tell me, where I missed the point, I'd be very grateful.

There must be a decent hint somewhere.
I cannot believe Larian would have us test manually random combinations, one by one.

I got lucky and hit the right combination of colours to open the door on the second try. As far as "random combinations" to complete a puzzle goes, you must have missed the chess puzzle where there was actually no correct response among the five possible options - the only solution was to try each one in turn until you hit the "acceptable" choice.

There really aren't that many combinations, if you are logical about it. I just worked through until I got there

Not to put too fine a point on this but you and I both found the answer "accepted" by the game, not an answer that actually solved the chess problem. See the following forum discussion:

"..I'll have to double check, but it appeared to me that the "solution" to the chess problem left the black player with a non-checkmate move to take one of white's pawn...."

Re: Citadel chess match

"You are correct. The chess match could NOT end in checkmate with one move, as stated in the quest. Unless people have different screens, which I serioously doubt, whoever came up with the quest was either incorrect or it's someone's sense of humor - and I fail(ed) to see it.

I spent (probably like you) a good half hour looking at the board, fully realizing that there were simply NO moves to answer the quest - but sure I'd missed something. heck, I even went back to a previous save! silly me. Moving the white knight to K5 (e5) will STILL allow for the black king at black Q3 (d6) to capture the white pawn at black K3 (e6) without jeapordy...."

I'm not sure if it's a clue but if you move one of the closets on the left wall you'll find 4 different coloured potions....

Very clever idea, Scruff . I just checked => the blue potion is the last though, so not in the correct position.

Hi Kiya, hope this helps Spoiler : The quantity of each colour potion denotes the sequence number for the equivalent coloured button i.e red:1, green:2, yellow:4, blue:3. Scruff

Ahhh, thanks a ton, Scruff ! I missed that - never looked at quantity - wow!
