Wasn't Baldur's Gate real time? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/think.gif" alt="" />

The combat was realtime yes but you could set the combat mode to a kind of a turn based gamplay that paused after every move . Its not a true turn based gameplay like in fallout but you can call it that .

BD is similar to BG combat - if you hit the pause button, you can heal your chars, direct your attack, change skills, change leader etc.

I had both on aggressive mode, so the non-leading one attacked by itself. If I wanted to harm via spell, I went into pause mode to choose, clicked on enemy, unpaused. Or if I wanted to deal with something in single mode, I went into sneak e.g. - then paused, used another skill (stun). Or I went into pause, directed char B somewhere else, switched back to char A - unpaused etc. So, micro management is similar.

The only difference between my BD and BG game was => I played a group in BG and only a pair in BD.

But BG have a turn based option wich is much better . If BD had a semi-turn based option like BG it would be great <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Ahhh! I see what he means, kiya.
In BG there was a function "Auto-Pause after every Turn".
Is that what you mean demonclaw?

Yes, this indeed correct, Death - BD does not have this game option in the menu. Same for => pause for enemy, broken weapon, badly injured etc. Recall, I loved that in BG.

I never used those options but I wonder how hard is it to add a couple in the next patch for people who are having problems.

P.S. But yes, I see Beyond Divinity is more challenging than I expected, which is always good.
Just killed the two level 6 gargoyles with my level 5 characters and I noticed a flaw in my character creation: Only the DK has heal and I was out of healing potions <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />. *Note to self: add Heal to my hero on the next level-up*.

Never had "heal" on one of my chars - they had to survive with potions <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devil.gif" alt="" />
Though I only killed one of those gargoyles - in single sneak mode - archer attack - she came after me. I put my DK into aggressive and as she was concentrating on my char (always running a few steps ahead of her), my DK chopped the gargoyle up, by sneaking after her. Was quite a sight <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />
Kiya

I hit pause a lot, too - because I laughed my head off.

All the reviewers called it turnbased so im calling it turnbased too <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> . Anyway , that kind o feature would help BD´s tactical part a lot

It's turnbased because it's D&D (die-roll) but if BG is turnbased, then BD is turnbased nonetheless. The "Turns" in BD are just real-life time measures. Seconds, for example.

So, you mean that because the reviewers say that BG is turn-based Beyond Divinity is unlike BG because BD is real time?
I need to read more books on logic <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/think.gif" alt="" />.

Currently playing Hardcore in act 3 , and it's quite difficult sometimes but it's doable, I have no idea how I managed to slide from Tactical to Action and finally to hardcore in game <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I am playing the game for the first time and i am playing hardcore too.
I am also in act 3.
I agree with Yannos some monsters are difficult to kill but it is possible.
I don't use the pause button but i use potions.
I kill all the monsters to get XP and i make a lot of savegames.
I did not visit the battlefields for the moment, i keep them for the end of the game.
I did not have difficulty to kill Kiya because i was stronger than her. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/silly.gif" alt="" />
I am not frustrated because i don't like easy games.

No , what im saying is that BG had a semi-turnbased feauture wich all the reviwers praised . BD dosent have anything like that , all it has is a pause button and thats not really much .

But heres an intresting link

http://rpgvault.ign.com/articles/521/521140p1.html (ign)

"We also wanted to try making a bit more of a hardcore RPG - for instance, Beyond Divinity originally had turn-based combat"

and I like rpg codex comment <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

http://www.rpgcodex.com/newsarchive.php?words=Beyond%20Divinity%20wrap%20report

" Aren't you glad that they've had the wisdom to replace it with that crappy "tactical" RT mode?"

I'm playing on tactical and like Kiya, I'm more of a quest person than a combat person, but I haven't found the game difficult at all. Yes, I die when I get over-confident, or careless, but that's my fault, not the games. Let me just say, Hammer and Lightning Storm are your friends!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

If God said it, then that settles it!!

Same here. I usually die when I click on the ground instead of a barrel :P.

I wouldn't argue with you, demonclaw, because I disagree but the arguments would lead to nothing but annoy us both. Use the pause button and the barrels <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />.

Hey, Barta is right, witch Kiya was easy to kill - she made a very short stunning acquaintance with my char Kiyana. But those Earth elementals... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ouch.gif" alt="" />

I'm surprised so many are having difficulty. I really found it rather easy on Hardcore. The Deathknight was 2Handed Slashing Melee weapon (usually an Axe but I would have preferred a sword for aesthetic reasons) and the hero was Crossbow with usually poison or explosive arrows. The DK also learnt Poison skill up to about half way. Everything went down easily, even the Earth Elementals. The only time I had problems was in the random teleport area when I'd port into 6 Earth Elementals. The only magic I used was individual Heal and act 3 onwards I never cast it again. If you want a tactic stick the Archer on aggresive and lead with the DK. Enemies target the DK becasse he's closer and the archer can pepper them while you move the DK around. Anyway 3 arrows or 2 axe blows killed most everything. Maybe you need to rearrange your skills a bit. Usually it's only cost effective to put 1 point into a weapon skill except for accuracy which needs 5 or so.

Yes, DK has a nice protection, it seems. It was a big mistake from my part to make him a magician, but I won't restart my game because of that <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />.

Ben, all would work well, if I didn't have the Earth Elemental trauma. You see, they were very very strong in earlier versions - and I played "death" on easy at those times. They're lethality was lowered later on - but when I played on tactical in Act 3, I had 8-9 at once in the Serrick Area (on easy only 4) - and my old trauma came again: mixing up my potion icons, starting to tremble, losing control and ... "game over", you see? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shame.gif" alt="" />

Strange, Sammy, his DK or the last boss enemy gave me no creeps, just these EA. I used nearly the same tactic as you described (DK leads in 2-hand melee, char is in aggressive as archer). But I had no skill pts left for "heal", so I relied on potions - and starting to get nervous, not being able to position distance due to these random teleportations brought me into trouble. It was not a case of wrong tactic IMO, just not being able to stay calm when I started to scroll and see their amount, thought popped up: Damn, I'm going to die again - and... well, self-fulfilling prophecy <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/delight.gif" alt="" />

I am a little disappointed because some ennemies are too easy to kill.
No challenge in the fight.
For instance :
- The witch Kiya
- The bishop
- The imp priestess
- The necromancer

But some other ones are difficult to kill specially when they are numerous.
