... they will call the Shops with the hard stuff "Liqueurshops" or i´m wrong here? And i dont found an other Word what mean all the different sorts.

Probably [color:"orange"]liquor[/color] shops... Liqueurs are usually quite sweet, often very strong, and flavoured with herbs, fruit, spices, etc. So, for example, Chartreuse, Crème De Menthe, and Benedictine are liqueurs; whiskey, rum and vodka are liquor. The word "liquor" can be used to refer to all types of alcoholic drinks.

One has nothing to do with the other, beer drinkers are know to drink a lot of it, still that doesn't explain their stomach size. Pll who drink other drinks a lot, as much as beer drinkers drink can have the same stomach size, what happens is when ppl get drunk, and no-matter how tough a man/woman you are, after drinking several glasses you are drunk, anyway those ppl tend to eat more to, they have the illusion they're hungry but they are not. the brains don't function 100% at that moment so ppl eat to much when they drink to much. thus explaining the beer-bellys. you can have it from drinking whine to.

Or this is what national gegraphic had to say about it.

Or this is what national gegraphic had to say about it.

National Geographic says that alcohol makes the brain work less than 100% and that's why we think we are hungry? That would be quite surprising since it is actually not the brain which makes us think we are hungry but the stomach (I mean, in this case of drinking alcohol). Alcohol increases the production of gastric or stomach juices - which indicates the body that we are hungry. It is just a sign of appetite. So, you tend to eat more if you drink more alcohol...

But of course that's only one aspect of it. Others say that alcohol increases also the fat burning ability of the body, which helps losing weight if you drink some alcohol. But other sources state that it is quite the opposite... it doesn't increase but actually decrease the fat burning. So, I wouldn't be too sure in that point.

Then ther are the calories... alcohol itself has some calories but especially beer has a rather low general calory level since it consists mainly of water.

Briefly: Drinking beer doesn't mean you get a beer belly automatically. And if you get one it doesn't have to be the beer's fault but can also be caused by any alcoholic drink you like to consume.

I am not sure that I follow you there Elgi.
Raki has diffrent ingredients than ouzo. And different taste. However they are both very strong. I really do not get what you mean with "copied". Gyros, and tzatziki are not Greek. Although all people that come to Greece want to taste it. Well I tell you one thing : souvlaki is a BIG misunderstanding. It is not Greek at all. Raki and ouzo is another story.

OK, I have to admit that the ouzo-raki-pseudo-battle is a rather private one of myself and not really reasonable. But you say gyros and tzatziki are not Greek? Where are they from?

Well, at least Currywurst and Döner Kebab are German products.

Pita is greek right? but over here they say Pita to Döner kebab...

NG, proved that statement by having a party, where half could drink alcohol and others may not. Those who did drink ate a lot more of the snack that were carried around, they chose fat food over healty food if they could choose for example between a deepfried snack or lettace with crab kinda snacks.

I like ouzo, but I drank sambuca more than I did ouzo.

What I really enjoyed was a shot of everclear mixed
with a good creamed ale.

I preferred to drink on an empty stomach
so as not to hinder my buzz.

You know very well where gyros and tzatziki are from. From the same place that mousakas is. And from the place they came, they can go back. We really do not care.

@ Dragh
pita is not Greek too. It goes along with gyros.

@ Tsel
Ah sabouka. Last month really destroyed me in a bar. I ended up dancing ON the bar. It has the same taste with ouzo and gives better hangover

Ice in wine is more than evil - it's American!

And on bellies (and I am an expert on those ) - no good for ashtrays, but comfortable for a women's head Also, it doesn't come from drinking beer (or whatever), IT COMES FROM THE DISCREPANCY BETWEEN CALORY INPUT AND OUTPUT. But it is conceded that when drinking, your calory output it rather low - crawling home on all fours simply is not comparable to jogging

GlanceALot

I can think of something even more evil.
Drinking a 1 EUR bottle of Port.
Now that is EVIL!
But not just evil, it's horrendous sacrilege!

Quite honestly, I don't know what exactly you mean. I know that döner and cacik for example are Turkish, but always thought gyros and tzatziki were the Greek versions...

Unfortunatelly they are. But they are not Greek. And we have it here as fast food. The cheapest thing in Greece is souvlaki. (Guros with pita that is...).

You know, I would love to visit Greece once, but the only thing that stops me is the food over there. I'm not that kind of person that would go to a country and ask for typical Belgian food when I'm there. Most of the people I know do that, but to me it's a waist. I think you have to try out the local food.
BUT, there is one big problem in Greece. They eat lots of olives, goatcheese (feta), paprika's, artisjok, sheepmeat and stuff like that. But I really really don't like that at all. (and don't say I haven't tried it out yet) Maybe I would only eat bread and drink white wine there, I'll return with a size 4!

It's the same for me (thanks to my father btw. He's taught me a lot of things, some of them not very funny (ok, fire crackers is just burning money!)), if you go to a foreign country, where do you eat, the local diner or McDonald's? You travel to discover and experience different cultures, so why travel X miles just to eat at a place you could have taken your bike and biked for 20 minutes to eat at? Or made at home?
