I could sharpen a hammer, if you mean this?

In general, if you have the sharpen skill and your char with this skill is in leading or single mode => simply right-click on a weapon and look if the "sharpen" option appears.

Thanks Kiya, that's exactly what I meant. Just seemed a bit odd to have a sharpened crushing weapon!

Oh, I tend to sharpen everything that is too slow to run away - wouldn't mind sharpening arrows either (impossible).

Forgot one thing => sharpening results in +4/+5 agility requirement (since version 1.44/1.45) - so, take care, hm? It was not nice for me to sharpen my absolute wonder-super-axe and then see I didn't meet the agility anymore.

But if you sharpen a hammer you ought to get an axe which ain't a crusher. Thanks for the extra tip and can I ask a further question. Is the sharpening on a weapon permanent or does it wear off?

It's permanent. You can sharpen the same weapon once per skill lvl. And you can try this (never did it myself) - SAVE!
1. Unlearn the skill with cash
2. Learn it again and try to re-sharpen the same weapon => does it work?

Actually, I didn't even look at the weapon type, just right clicked and looked for the "sharpen option", was fun for me. Is more fun than sharpening my pencils

A nice sharpen thread, click here, explains this cheat

If your going to sell a weapon, sharpen it anyway, get extra cash

I don't think that works, because of the higher agility requirement, the cost of the weapon stays the same (at least it does in v1.45).

Oh and yes, you can walk around with a sharpened frying pan and kick butt
