I am sure this has already been asked quite a few times, but I must be doing something wrong because all of my searches are turning up nothing. Please forgive me for the repeat, but all of these books are driving me crazy.

All through Aleroth, I have found books and manuscripts everywhere so I am assuming they are all throughout the whole game. My questions are:

Do I need to collect all of them? Are they all important?

If not, then how do I tell the important ones from the not so important ones?

Right now I have one of the bookcases in Joram's house stuffed full of every book and manuscript that I have found so far and it is a real pain searching through them to see if I have found one exactly like it previously.

If there is a link somewhere that explains all about the books and the roll they
play in Divine Divinity, please tell me how to find it. Any information that will help me sort through all of these books will be greatly appreciated.

Most books and manuscripts are just for background information or for atmosphere. If an enemy drops a manuscript, someone gives you a book through a speech option or it seems quest related, then keep it, otherwise you do not need it. For example, there are a couple letters from one character to another mentioning criminal activities, which can be used to solve or advance certain quests.

Thanks Raze. You have probably just made Joram very happy. I'm sure he will be glad to find no more useless books in his bookcase.

AlrikFassbauer: Ummm, not a bad idea. Maybe they would improve my cooking. Would you be my taste tester?

What? You're not sure if you want to taste the Larian Book Recipes!!!
Are you that afraid of my cooking?

I have just started Divine Divinity and I was thinking about playing Beyond Divinty when I finsh. Are you as swamped with books in it as you are in this one?

I have really been having a hard time keeping up with all of the books. That was the reason for this post. I kept feeling like I was missing out on something because alot of them kept saying part one, part four, etc. They gave me the feeling that I needed to collect all the parts to be able to complete some quest or do something that would show up later in the game.

A lot of them do tell interesting stories. It's worth collecting them for that.

The only book collection you need to worry about completing is in the merchant's guild in Verdistis. Minor Spoiler : Finding and reading all 3 volumes will teach you a level of Trader's Tongue. (highlight the text to read)

I agree some of the recipes sound very interesting. Makes me wonder how they would taste. I thought about trying some of them out since AlrikFassbauer sugged it, but he wasn't sure he wanted to be my taste taster.

Books and manuscripts duly noted. I'll be sure to watch out for the ones that you mentioned Raze. I hate missing anything and I sure would be mad at myself if i missed them after you told me which ones to look for.

Thanks for the help.
