Hey who helped you get to Lion's Arch when everyone complains the Gates of Kryta mission is impossible to finish? :P but I admit you were lucky to find me when my brother wasn't there.

Next beta if they don't add anything new I think most of my time will go to trying to finish all secondary objectives in every mission.

Hmm... Not sure who it was. Some guy... Had nice armour though!

Huh, I slowly become kind of puzzled.

I have WoW being ordered, and I think of GW. And soon I will have to choose, bcause sadly I can't play two at the same time <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/puppyeyes.gif" alt="" /> Guys, help. I know almost all of you face the same dilemma.

How is GW now? I played it on open beta, can say, quite long ago. They say it showed only 20-30% of it's potential.

Will it be comparable with WOW. Ohh, sure it will, and no monthly fee is surely a plus. but, will there be as many things to do as in WoW?

I read a lot that GW is more like Diablo with it's ladder, where you can create mini-games for 2-8 peeps. I know it really does looks like that. But are there things to do rather than killing mobs or other group of players?

WoW is intriquing by it's world where you can PVE, PVP, go realm vs realm, lay sieges, build catas, get pets, get a profession (did I forget something?).


Will GW offer same diversity, rather than just being good MP game with great grapfics?

Ohh, yes, last thing. in RPGs and especially in MMORPGs main goal (pls don't argue) is to create strong and IMPRESSIVE hero (or antihero) through gaining new abilities through lvls and obtaining cool-looking/fancy/powerful armors and weapons.

If lvluping is not important in GW, then what is the ultimate goal of the character in this game? What am I going to accomplish in it, besides getting to know new play-strategies and progressing in some plot?

Here are some more questions for you guys <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

1. What happens when you die ? Do you loose equipment/money/experience ? Do you have to fetch your corpse back ?
2. Can you choose not to participate in PvP and GvG activities ?
3. How do you communicate in-game ? Have you used some third-party vocal communication software during the beta weekends ? What was your experience with this ?
4. Can you create several characters with the same account ?
5. Can you have a pet ? I like pets <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
6. Can you be a member of several guilds ? at the same time ?
7. Are there special areas for guilds (guild hall, shared inventory or so) ?

And I'm still not shure about the quests/story. Isn't there just the classical MMORPG "fetch me five wolf tails" quests? And the story, what is it like?

I have played both open betas, will try to answer your questions. But, sure, it will be better if someone who participates in those weekends could confirm my answers.

The game does look like a D2 ladder. You can see all other folks in towns or in gathering locations. You make or join a grp and enter a mission. Mission just for your grp. So, it is like ordinary coop playing.
If you die during a mission your corpse will stay until you escape the mission or someone from your grp rezz you. I am sure, you do not loose items, but don't remember about money or exp.

Similar to coop missions there are grp vs grp missions. If you choose not to participate in them - that's your choice.

You communicate as usual, through channels. all/grp/guild/whisper. I haven't tried third party vocal comm and I am interested myself whether this will work. I remember DAOC refused to work if any third party progs were running in background. That was in Mythic's anti-cheating policy. Can't say about GW.

I don't think there is shared inventory for guild.

And at the end I will add, I think, (nobody answered my last post about this, so that's my opinion based on things I mostly read) that if you look for classical MMORPG with it's large scale, complicated world with complex lvl system, PvE, PvP, guild activities, alliances, item hunts, quests etc. then I suggest go after WoW, Eve, EQ2. But, beware, it can ruin your RL <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />
Guild Wars is more about occasional play. Pick your char. pick set of skills and jump into action of a mission or team vs team battle. Missions are not long.
And GW has no monthly fee.

So, the choice if yours.

I am still thinking, what game to choose and I still have some time for that. WoW is delayed. Official distributor here in Estonia can't say anything about release dates. So, who knows, maybe we will meet in GW one day. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

I have just found out that collector's edition is shipped with 3 months TeamSpeak Voice Hosting.

I WASN'T looking into the classical MMORPG style, I just want something to take up my sparetime (I have too much sparetime <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cry.gif" alt="" />). Guildwars seems to me to have the action of D2 (at least that's one positive thing to say about D2), and yet more variation (DatD mentioned itthat the quests was one of the most varied collecrtion he has met in a long time, or something like that). So I wondered, what is the quests like? Is there only the "fetch 5 wolftails" quests, or can you do other things too? And the main story? What is it? Save the world or what?

When you die, you get 15% death penalty (-15% to health and energy), but don't lose anything else. Death penalty can be removed by killing ennemies or by moving into another instance. Usually you have to wait and get resurrected by a friend, but in explorable areas there are shrines at which you reappear after death.



The choice is all yours, as Egin said it's all in their own instances. The only time you'll be attacked by another player you'll probably be expecting it.



I have used ventrilo to communicate with some of my friends and never had any problems.



You can create 4 characters per account.



Rangers can have pets, necromancers can too but theirs lose health over time and can only be summoned with ennemy corpses. Rangers have to charm an animal and it stays with them as long as they keep their charm skill on their skillbar



Your account is attached to your guild, if one of your characters joins a guild, all your other characters will be in that guild too.



Currently a guild can choose from 6 different Guild Halls, and I heard ANet say they would add a shared guild inventory but I'm not sure it will really be implemented.

I was going to order WoW also, but they sell US version only and I donno is it ok to buy it here.

I found a Swedish site where you can preorder GW. I must say I'm seriouslly tempted (espessially since the final beta-weekend is next week). The problem is, I think you need a credit card, which I don't. In case I'll decide top preorder here, I'll have to talk with my dad...

Hi all. To add to Rythok's post, you can be penalized up to 60% on death penalties. Also, as a Ranger, if your pet dies, you will recieve a 15%DP. I recieved gobs of DP from my Kitty jumping into the midst of a mob and getting dead. You regain life %'s by killing enemies.
Currently, Arena Net is working on the pets not being so stupid as to attack whatever they feel like attacking. Same goes for hired minions,atacking and bringing mobs (trains)to your group that you are not prepared to face.
I hope they get it worked out by next WE.
