I’ve made it a little ways into the game, and I have a problem. I’m on the fifth level down (I think) in the dungeon in the town where you start the game. My character is level 7. There is a tile that I can click on that takes me to a small room. In it is a Skeletal Conjuror Lord. This guy hands me my ass every time. I can’t heal fast enough to stay alive. I thought the ghouls were tough, but this guy is INSANE.

Any tips on how to take him out?

Well my advice is : DON`T! You dont have to to go on so leave him. IF you insists well his main attack is firebased (?) so raising fireresistans with elixir or protection with spellsheild should help. I assume you have a bunch of minor restoration potions? If not get Alchemy and mix some ASAP. As long as you heal the damage faster then he puts it on you have a chance.

Come back at a higher level with better equipment. How is your agility? If you attack right away and keep at it, his ability to attack should be reduced. Do you have Lightning, Meteor Strike or some other spell which can be repeatedly cast very quickly? Even for a warrior with limited mana, this will soften him up a bit. If you think he is tough, wait til you enter the room with the spider. I couldn't take the spider out toe-to-toe with my warrior, but did get him with Burning Wall, which I found in a book case in Mardaneus' house.

OK, I'll give it another go. I took out the other 3 with no problem.

Now I'm having trouble with the final battle. I can run out of the room, but I want all of the EXP for killing the critters. I'm thinking about using the teleportation pyramid to pop in and out of the battle...

If you run west / south west to the wall you should be able to find a spot with few monsters, then advance slowly to take on a few at a time.

I've had some sucess with a running battle, but there is another Skeletal Conjuror Lord remaining. I can't seem to take these guys out. And I can't use the pyaramid to teleport out and get more potions.

Anyway, back at it.

OK, I'm getting frustrated. I've been fighting a running battle with the Skeletal Conjuror Lord for a couple of hours now. And I JUST noticed that I am not getting any experience points for the skeletons he creates. All this time I was thinking that if I leveled I could beat this guy. But it looks hopeless.

I HATE leaving something behind unfinished. Any ideas? I’m about to go into a running battle with a crossbow. I figure I can inflict a few points of damage and run away.

Try Frost, idf you can (that's my advise, use at personal risk), or clear first the surroundings of Aleroth to gain experience points (beware of traps, though !)

I gave up and exited the room. He was just too tough. Anyway, I'm happily killing orcs outside of town now...

I don't think you get much extra experience for killing them all. The first time I bolted from the room and was awarded about 30000XP. The second time I killed everything and only got about 1500XP for leaving the room. I think Mardenus kills them all for you as an ally and shares the XP with you.

HA! I just started a new game on HARD level, thinking that normal was too easy.
I was level 20, and didnt want to go on with the lack of challenge I saw. in diablo 2 the monsters were easy to kill, but there were LOTS of monsters on the screen at once. in Divinity, I rarely see more than 6 monsters at once, and they die just as easy as diablo 2...

Hard level is working out well so far. Zombie jake is so brutal, I cant kill him at level 4. I will have to get more Vitality and better skills. These conjurers will probably kick my ass too. I can't melee things too well in HARD mode (not yet) but I am a bow/magic character, with sneak (survivor) so I do hit and run tactics. This is a good challenge. I figure I will have to get Freeze at 5th, and level up a few times killing the orcs (damn they are tough) outside town before finishing the catacombs. I can also sneak past the orcs, and make my way to Rivertown (think its called) around dwarftown, where the snakes and bees and boars might be easier to kill. Having some knowledge of the game, this second time through is interesting...

Honestly, I dont remember the Conjurer Lord too much in my first game. He didnt last long on Normal with my character: trained in bow x2, with 80 damage bow and Sight +10 or so. I would run and kill things at the edge of the screen with 2-3 shots of my bow. When I see conjurers, I focus on them and try my best to ignore what they summon.

It's been a while, but I think I handed out two or three Death Scorpions down there as nice Deadly Gifts, then left them to it. Death Scorpions are handy when you are playing an archer character and have to spend a lot of time running out reach.

Ran into Skeletal guardians and Conjurers in my Hard difficulty game. DAMN!
I can kill them as long as I dont let them hit me. One hit and Im dead, while it takes me about 3 minutes running circles with my bow to kill one of them (750 vitality vs my 90)
Thats not exactly what I had in mind when I envisioned HARD mode. I can't imagine having to fight 3 at once and it would be impossible for a warrior to win without using non-warrior skills.

heh, i'm a survivor char, the spider and skeletal conjuror in those underground little rooms handed my ass to me when i went there the first time. I ended up sneaking
with the special move right past all of them, picking up the treasure and leaving....i probably should go back there now to finish them off :P I just like how DD has made stealth in a diablo-style game soemthing worthy :P

I'm a survivor myself, I don't recall what level I was but I think it's less than 7... using a bow, I managed to clear all the beasties in the catacombs and solving all the quests in Aleroth before venturing out...

The hardest creatures I've met in the catacombs were the the skeleton lord with the flame bow and the giant spider, both in the catacombs.

Three words, run and shoot. Tough but I eventually took them down. Elven Sight(?) at level 2 helped get in a few more shots... the spider is especially tough since it moves real fast; the skeleton lord's flame bow stuns you, but liberal use of the pause and good range will win the day... not to mention patience and saves...

The hardest so far has been the Troll King... needed to "cheat" with that one, by teleporting just outside the cave to avoid his hits, then going back in via the entrance...

Skels summoned by conjurors are XP-less... they are distinguished by a white transluscent glow...

Different situation I believe. This one is when the whole room fills with skels?
