In Sweden we have this thing kalled Adventskalender. It works like this: Every day, starting on the first of December you open a tapdoor on your calender. There are 24 of them, so if you're a real egghead you know that there are one for every day until Christmass. It ends on Christmass eve (which is the main day for us Swedes, don't ask me why, it's just the way it is. Maybe it sarted out as lack of patience.). You can allso have a Chocolatevariant, then every tapdoor contains a piece of chocolate. They usually taste like $hit... Anywhay, I was thinkin of createing our very own Adventskalender. Why? Since it's such a nice tradition! Maybe you have it in other countries (like Germany, for some strange reason we've got a lot of our traditions from Germany). So, here we go. Tapdoor one Übereil

Tapdoor two This is the traditional art of pictures you find in a "Adventskalender" Or the form of the Chocolat pieces. Simple Forms, which presenting a little pieces of the Christmastime. But today you can find modern or a little joking kind of pictures too.

Yes. Maybe we should add the restriction of keeping to X-mass when picking Tapdoor, since so far EVERY tapdoor has been wrong...

When I was smaller my mother never bought an "Adventskalender", she always made one especially for me. It was like 24 little socks( like the ones you hang next to the fireplace in America, just smaller) in red, with christmas-motives on them like angels, christmastree, snowman or santa. In each one was something different, one day it was a little sweet, the next day it was something cute to put on the small branch of a fir tree in my room and the other day it was a little figure of an angel. I was really excited every morning when I got up and I couldn`t wait to look into the next sock. In Germany we celebrate christmas on the evening of the 24th, so on the 23rd I went to my grandmother`s house and slept there, which gave my parents time to decorate the christmastree and wrap the presents. When I came home on the evening of the 24ht I was nearly exploding and I couldn`t wait to get into the living-room to see the tree and all the decoration, but I always had to wait with my grandparents in front of the door til my father rang a little bell, then I was allowed to get in. Now I`m kind of grown out of it, in fact im 14 now and I help decorating the tree now. But I still love christmaseve as much s I loved it when I was smaller and I`m already looking forward it really excited again.

Happyflower,
Nice post. I've allways helped decorateing the tree, even though I was not of much help back when I was small (in fact, mostly I was only in the way...). Here in Sweden too we celebrate on the 24:th. That's when all the great programs you allways whach is (like the Disney-Xmass show. Allways whach it... and, never to forget: Karl Bertil Jonsson's christmass. Great story.). I acually think Christmass is the only thing that makes winter worth living (expect of the fact that summer will soon be back). Maybe not worth living, but it makes it a lot brighter.

PS Dammit, I SHOULD have named it the X-mass thread ! DS
