Hey all, I just bought this game. Really loved Divine Divinity, and decided to finally get this game. I've heard several mixed things about this game, and well, I finally decided to give it a shot.

Anyways, to the questions

1. What classes should I make each character, and why should I make them those classes, and should I change any starting stats around? Also, does gender and such make a difference at all?

2. Are Mages really useless in this game? I've heard that most spells aren't really that great.

3. What are the best skills in the game, and why are they the best?

4. What are the first few things I should do?

5. Any other words of advice you people could give me would be great.

Thanks in advance, as always.

I love Divine Diviniy, it's a great game. It's like a combo of Diablo and Baldur's Gate!

Hello.

If you look for tips, you could also use the forum's Search Function with appropriate keywords. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

1. I hear that the easiest char is the warrior. Since <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beyond.gif" alt="" /> is also - like <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" /> a classless system, chars tend to be a mixture of all. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

2. I don't know. Personally I think there are some quite effective spells there. And Meteorstrike is in it, too (if I remember correctly).

3. Hm, difficult to say. I've used healing a lot, for example.

However, you'll need teachers for new skills, anyway.

4. Get better equipment. Look out for teachers. Best is, imho, to spare some money for teachers. IMHO also a few points into wisdom could be handy as well. Alchemy works a bit different than in <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" /> , though.

5. Look at the "sticky" threads/topic here.

Have fun ! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Alrik.

I started with 2 melee warriors, with one using a bow or crossbow for tough fights during the start of act 1. Towards the end of act 1 arrows were much more available and there were fewer skeletons around (crushing damages makes short work of them), so I switched one character to a full time archer.

The very start of the game you may need to have your characters be melee warriors at least part of the time, but as you get a little stronger and additional skills become available you can play any character build successfully. For mages there are stronger spells starting in act 2.

For an archer, you definitely need to boost Reload Time. For a warrior, the poison weapon skill combined with the spin attack is very effective. Other than that, you can get by with a couple skill points in your weapon expertise of choice. The shaman magic skills are some of the most effective for mages.

Kiya's BD demo screenshot walkthrough/spoiler covers the first level of the full game.

The Beyond Divinity Strategy Guide contains a section describing the effects of the primary stats and some general advice on stat point distribution.

Gender only makes a cosmetic difference, everything else is the same.

If you hadn't noticed, there is a patch for BD.
