Reason I'm asking is that I need one in order to install Ultima 7 (which I downloaded...). I have one to play it, but I have to install it first, which is a bigger problem...

hmm seem to remember that the folks at Bethesda Dos Box had a good one available for Daggerfall Arena <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

Would something like this allow me to play warcraft II again?

Ubereil,

I have played Ultima 7 and Serpent's Isles on DOS box.
Sometimes, restarting Windows XP (assuming that's what you have) in MS-DOS mode works too.
To do that, insert a blank diskette in your drive. Right click on the drive in "My Computer" and choose "create MS-DOS bootdisk". Then restart your computer. You need to make sure booting from a diskette is set before booting from the HD in your BIOS.

Nero: I played Warcraft 2 on Win 98. Have you tried the compactibility mode under XP?

I have once played Warcraft II on my Win98 PC as well - but everything (animations and such) was way too fast. Is this normal or do I need to use an Emulator to slow things down ?

Ooh, DevDict is back <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />. Anyway, about what you said, for that you'll need discettes <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />. I'll might try to dig some old one up, if the DOSemulator fails (and I acually think it's the same one. I really just need it in order to install the games...).

To play Ultima VII, Exult is probably the best possiblity on XP.
That doesn't help with the installation, but why doesn' the Installation work in Dosbox?

I've got exult. The porblem with DOS-box is to write the way to the installation file (being an american keyboardsetting and all. Not to mention the complicated search way (Swenglish?)).

I've heard of D-Fend, a sort of GUI or at least "control program" for the DOS-BOX. Maybe it's even in German. ;-)

You could try ask someone in the German section, especially here, where some have erected a small FAQ for the DOS-BOX. There are also some links in it.
Don't hesitate to ask there, we all can speak English. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> (Well, at least most of us. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> )
