The first time I came in contact with a real RPG was when I met . And told me how overwhelming RPG's can be. It taught me that, when they're good, they suck you into a world which is impossible to step out. It taught me that I can spend hours on such a game and that I love RPG's.
But as I succeeded further and further in the game, I always decided to do something new, so I made a few new characters. And eventually that led to my leave from the game... . Because I wanted something totally different I bought Guild Wars Factions, and now I play it together with a friend. And 'cause I have the habbit to uninstall games which I don't plan to play in a while, I uninstalled . And serious, that uninstalling was hurting my heart .
Guild Wars Factions goes me well now, and I love playing it. It has things didn't have.
But has a lot of things GW and other games don't have. And it's still waiting behind me, on the piano (which is mostly used to put things on ) , to be reinstalled. And as I'm writing this, the need to play again is growing a little bit, deep in my heart. But I know, that if I'll play again, I will need a lot of time for it (of course). And with next schoolyear and GW that's going to be a little problem. But hey, problems are there to be solved So when the time is there, I will be playing good old again. (or else DD2, who knows )

(erm..yeh...that's my emotional band with my first RPG )

The first Elder Scrolls - the main quest dungeons were designed individually and had a variety that all later Elder Scroll games, inlcuding Oblivion have not reproduced.

LOL you have got to mean Arena, I still have a spare (old) PC, set up just to play that and Eye of the Beholder series

Never tried it with the "DOSBOX" emulator ?

I got the Eye of the Beholder trilogy only last year I think on a flea market - on CD-ROM. I didn't know it was compiled on CD-ROM at one point, but the product is indeed original.

First RPG was Wizardry for the Apple + (plus). That was 1982.

Does anyone know what the only cheat was back then?

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to hide the bodies of those I had to kill, because they pissed me off.

My first p&p rpg Advanced Dungeons & Dragons (by Gygax) is still have Willhelm my Human Ranger for it (on level 3 - family didn't get to play much ). Then I moved on to the Robotech RPG and Call of Cthulhu 2nd Ed.

My first CRPG was Rogue -- an anscii graphic dungeon devler. Rogue is also what games like Diablo, DiabloII, FATE (pretty much any game where the dungeon changes each time you start a new game) is based on. I actually have versions of this game that will run DOS, Windows, WindowsCE (for my wife's HP iPAQ), and Palm OS (for my Palm of course ). The great thing about Rogue was that, and still is, free.

Since making my first character for AD&D, I have played and even run many p&p games, as well as playing many crpgs. For those of u old enough to remember the original Pool of Radiance, I actually played the entire Pool series (Pool of Radiance, Curse of the Azure Bonds, Secret of the Silver Blades, and Pools of Darkness) both on paper and computer. Ah, how I long for the return o fsome of those classics.

To be or not to be, that is not the question. It's how many I have to kill and where to hide the bodies.

Nethack is an further evolution of Rogue. I never played Rogue itself, though.

Wikipedia has articles on them.

You do realize that we are really dating ourselves by admiting to playing these games don't you.

Is that why you live in Florida because you are retired.

@MeaCulpa: No, not really, I was just saying that to see if anyone else would join those of us from the old school.

Just a question to be thrown out there, does anyone live in the Central FL. area and want to get together for some p&p gaming?

Dang!! I wish I could .. I really would love too ... played RoleMaster for years ... but alas being in Australia is a "bit" of a hindrance
However try to think of a PBEM game maybe ?

I have thought about a PBEM game, ,y major flaw with it is the static feeling of the game. I have always felt that PBEM is perfect for a stratagy/war game and much less so than for a RPG. Could try a IM or a game using OpenRPG . Not sure when such a game could start though, not to mention who would run it.

Well let's see.
Ecco the Dolphin probably doesn't count as an RPG nor does Goldeneye. Magic the Gathering was never an RPG. Although Ube and others might object, I would have to say that Diabl II was my 1st. And if DII doesn't count, then it would be NWN.

The question is not, Can they reason? nor, Can they talk? but, Can they suffer?

I bought the PC version for cheap money two months ago in a stationary and toy shop (both in one shop); they once had a small range of PC games, but they abandoned them soon after. Normally, toy shops don't have PC games, only console games, if ever.

My very first RPG was Zelda. If you are talking about computer RPGs, then Baldur's Gate was my first one.

Yay Heroquest is just fun , I try to have at least once a year a non Hero quest marathon. The game just starts to get fun when you have played some maps and collected some armor and special weapons .
