I just walked through the door that had to be opened with four levers on the wall (after killing Fergus in the Prison), and at the moment my character walks through there, me and my Death Knight die, and I have to start over. Now the question - does the demo end there or is it a bug or something else?

There's another lever in the room that has to be pulled after the other 4 levers, or when you go through the door, it triggers a trap which kills your characters outright.

No, the Demo doesn't end there. I guess that's kind of a trap you need to avoid first, or even better : disarm through certain levers.

Do you really mean start over, or load your previous save? There are several deadly traps in the game (mostly in act 1), some of which you will have advanced notice of, and some you will not.
The note with the lever combination started to give a warning (however vague) before it became unreadable.

If you are having problems spotting levers, etc, you can boost the gamma setting in the graphics options, and switch the darkness setting to 50.

There is a message when you reach the end of the demo (you are nearly half way through).
