I went to a site, and then later my friend said there might have been a keylogger in the site.

The site just was a txt document, just some text.

is there any way there might have been a keylogger in there? and if so how do I get rid of it/know for sure?

Thanks.

Yeah, there can be a keylogger. Some sites, regardless of the extension you type, process everything as a web page. While you typed or clicked on a text document, the web site could redirect it through a more complex page before showing you the text.

Frankly, I've heard some of the crap your friends have said in the past. I'm betting it's just a rumour getting out of control.

If you have a latest browser, spyware and anti-virus, I reckon you've got nothing to worry about.

I dont know. There's this group of jerks who steal money from people in guild wars and someone gave me a comment to a link about them, and I read it, and while I copy and pasted it into my browser and stuff and my firewall didn't say anything, I was just worried =/

Thanks.

Lews, you can test your system with one of this two scannprograms:

- AdAware
- SpyBot - Search and Destroy

I use both - one can maybe not found a keylogger / trojan, but the other one <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

It is always good to have a up-to-date antivirus program installed and let a regulary check (once per week) over the whole system run.

If pages are dynamically built, let's say via PHP or so, or ASP, then you can't see what was going on in the background. You just see what the browser displays to you, bnot what the server actually did to display this page to you (I mean to create a page that can be read and loaded by the browser).

When you find a big kettle of crazy, it's best not to stir it.
