Made it all the way to the lake crossing, got inside the castle there with plenty o' restoration options and some really happening level 35 armor/weapons, got killed in the first fight in 10 seconds, and hit ctl-S without thinking .....overwrote my quicksave, the next saved game was a WEEK earlier.....

The worst part of it is that the ctl-S almost NEVER works unless I hit it a couple of times....this time it worked like a charm....d'oh!!!

Now one week later, I am just about to finish the dwarf mayor quest....and I know I have to wade through the wasteland all over again......

If this wasn't the best rpg ever I would have given up........

I almost cried when it happened.

Oh, dear, that's terrible - feeling sorry for you. I had save errors, too - but not 1 week.

Can those stars comfort you a bit ? (Hoping you make different saves this time....)

Sorry to hear that. That is the reason I seldom use quick save, most of the time I have 5 games saved, not more than an hour difference in time on any one of them.

Too late to help now, but the latest patch disables saving when you are dead.
It would be a good idea to save the game under a new name before (or after) major quests, good equipment finds, etc. and not just rely on quick saves.

Ctrl-L will get you sometimes too. You know - you just won against Josephine and you go to save and in your excitement you hit Ctrl-L (you'd been hitting it because you died so many times) instead of Ctrl-S. That's why I set up a function key to save with (Kiya advised me to after a similar incident )

yes this kind of things make you realy pist.... atleast me.
I had another thing with that. I finished everithing in aloroth at the beginning. I walked on and even killed the orc chief (witch was difficult on lvl 7). And later on i get killed like nothing by a stupied drummer. Then i reliesed i had never saved before dumb me.

It happend a few times. I always seem to forget to save regulary.
Maybe i should get something to rember me of it....

well... you could save every time you see an orc drummer.
It's just an idea.

Reminder: Please, don't laugh, I had exactly that for a while - an alarm clock going off every 15 minutes for quicksave - and a reminder to make a proper save every hour - a piece of paper with a scribbled note on it attached to my monitor. I had a bad spot in my gameplay where I constantly died - elite orcs and later on the insane skellies , grmbl.

You know the latest patch allows multiple quicksaves. What I mean is that you can set the amount of quicksaves you want. Say you want 4. Then it will save on quicksave 1 the first time you save, on the 2nd the second time you save etc... And on the 5th quicksave, it will overwrite the 1st quicksave.

This way you can save frequently, and even if you saved at a wrong point, you don't have to go back that far.

Ok, maybe a bit too late now... But for future cases.

Well, in every game I play, I feel guilty if I don't save every 3 min.

It's on pages about games, avaters, smilies, wallpapers,...
So probably you're not the only one using it.

That's alright, I don't really mind that. I can't really stop anyone from using it, since I didn't make my avatar. But I have been using this avatar for ages, and I'm not gonna change now.

I often end up repeating 10-15 minute segments of the game three or four times over because I keep forgetting to save.

I did that in Septerra Core. I changed computers and was copying everything over. I forgot the Septerra Core save game. I was 57 successful hours into the game, with about 4 hours to go. I think I'm up to chapter two again, maybe?
