This is the first time I'm playing the game (never knew it existed ) and I was wondering when I should go to Verdistis. I doubt I can clear out the Orc camp in the east or the cursed abby with my lvl 13 warrior. Should I just go to the city, or is it better to clear out the first map entirly before going to Verdistis? Is this game anything like Gothic 2 where you had to go back to a place when you were strong enough?
I'm currently locked in the castle btw, so going on a journey isn't my prime objective at the moment.

And is there any use in taking books? I mean the story boks, not the skillbooks.

The cursed abbey may be a little difficult until you are at least in the high teens for character level. If you have cleared the area around Aleroth and explored the farmlands and east of there, the next easiest area would probably be to the north east. After that, the north west area around the cursed abbey should be doable; the undead there are slow (easier to take out from a distance) and do poison damage (if you see any Spell Shield books for sale, buy them - poison damage comes off the shield and you do not jerk around). You can probably clear some of the area to the south, but the stronger orcs or trolls would be pretty tough at your level.

I cleared much of the first map before going to Verdistis, but there isn't really a reason to wait. Quests give more experience at a higher character level (defeating monsters gives more experience if you are at a lower level than your opponent), but you wouldn't want to put off completing quests just for that.

There is no need to keep most non-spellbooks. If someone specifically gives you a book, you should hang onto it, though, until it is needed.

The first time I played, I totally screwed up in what I term "area managing", (if you want a few details, look in the general section of this forum, the post by Ragnar Iceblood) but the second time I played, I did a really good job by calculating which monsters in which areas would give me what amount of XP points. BTW, congratulations Raze on your 9600th post, you ROCK!

Personally I found the cursed abby tougher than the orc camps. I cleared the orcs at level 18 with a warrior and did the cursed abbey at level 20 and found that tougher. I think the main reason was you can't freeze skeletals but orcs can be frozen. Also the archers that use fire arrows raise havoc with low fire resist, they also stun you a bit when they hit.

For the Orcs, one point in freeze works well, just be sure to take out any orc drummers 1st. Life leech can also drop the HP's of an Elite giant orc fast, plus the life you drain gets added to your HP's. The toughest orcs are in the most SW corner. Level 13 is too low for the elite orcs or inside the abbey.

Like Raze said the zombies are slower. Have you done that quest for Marcus in market square yet? After you finish that quest is a good time to do the sewers below Rivertown. I could handle those at level 13 and it gave good xp.

I try not to touch Freeze, the game gets extremely easy with that spell. I'm lvl20 now and I've cleared the Abby, the Elite Orcs still kick my [nocando] though. So now is the time for Verdistis I guess. I don't remember Marcus, I'll have to check my journal.

I wouldn't say it makes it easy. Just makes it so you can fight the elites at level 16 instead of level 20. There still a challenge and you don't have to always use it. But I unstand its a personal preference.

I have another question. Zandalor is ready to take me to the council of the seven, apparently I'm going to be the Divine one. Will this end the game? Should I first finish all remaining quests before going with Zandalor?

When Zandalor takes you to the council of seven. It will open up the council quests where you need to locate the members. You can still do any other quests. Its not till you get ready to leave the council that you move to a new location.

edit-When in the council chamber be sure to locate the teleporter there. Its the ony way out.

Ok, thanks. Zanadalor made it sound like it will be last thing I'll do.
