The creature sounds like a way to get stung with bad party AI.

If the AI is inadequate (which there is no reason to assume), there is no need to use the summoned/constructed creature. Even ignoring combat, it may be handy as a mule, or something.

No reason to assume? How about most party A.I s are, the pets in DD & the death knight in the BD demo (bad A.I is why i didnt get the full version).

There is no reason to assume it will be one of the rare few that isn't inadequate.

Playing a warrior/warrior or warrior/archer in BD, I had both main characters selected almost all the time, and directed them to move and attack as one. While the AI controls are not really detailed enough to configure a mage properly, a non-lead archer set to aggressive (to automatically attack opponents in range) is quite handy.
