Are you shutting down all non-essential programs (especially anti-virus) before starting the game?

I don't have the game yet, so don't know if there are any know issues that can cause this...

If you're playing with a No-DVD crack, this can happen too. If you are playing with the shipped DVD in your drive, there may be an issue with SecuROM. Contact their support: http://www.securom.com/support_enduser.asp?t=1

no i have the original DVD from the store, so no need to use a crack.
securom if the DVD driver ? there don't seem to be any errors regarding the dvd-player. it just when i click save game and select the file to overwrite, and click yes to confirm, the game crashes.

Then maybe those files are protected on your hd and dd2 can't overwrite them and crashes, could be an option.

Not sure if you run any programs that protect your files from being altered / deleted at all times without permission?

yes, it seem not to crash any more now, or just very, very rare.

just make sure you update all drivers for video, physX, directX, and so on.
