I'm on the quest to find the stone axe, and the boss is seriously mauling me. Whenever I stand still to hit him I have to drink down potions constantly. Does ANYTHING protect against that spell? (I managed to take down the lady down by the elven burial ground, but she was a little more fragile, as in she spent time shielding herself, and in general cared about me hitting her instead of just killing me out of hand )

To the best of my knowledge, nothing will protect you from hell spikes.

She can't cast hellspikes if she's frozen

Hell Spikes does physical damage. You can buy Aura of Guarding spell books, but that is about it for defense (other than better equipment or higher hit points, of course). Bless could help a bit, as could strength potions. Stun would slow him down once you start whacking him. If you are a warrior, you could drink a shadow potion, then use the spin attack near, but not directly on, him. Can you Blind him, or Curse, Freeze, etc? Are you using Restoration potions, rather than health/mana?

I find running away works really well.

Yeah, Aura of Guarding works well. You can get an AoG spellbook from one of the elves in the village; a level one shield costs 10 mana and absorbs 60 damage...I *never* go into combat without one up.

Aura of Guarding, unfortunately, doesn't help at much. At level five, it soaks up 140 damage. About one round and a half of hellspikes, and it's gone. So yes, frost from weapon and blind all the way.

I just used Deadly Discs lvl 5 and restoration potions, with a small pause in between, so my mage could jump off the hellspikes and the discs still kept on whirling.

Moriendor responds nicely to Energy Cage, can't cast spells then. I finished him off with elemental strike.

Blinding stops Moriendor from casting spells.

Making lots of targets also helps. If you have a point in skeletal wall, spray those guys out. Skeletal wall takes much less spell casting time than Shield does, and enemies always change their focus to the newly arrived skeletons. Sure, they'll drop dead in the first few seconds of hell spiking, but they're so spread out, it'll take 2-3 casts to kill all 5. Then you just summon s'more.

If you have a ranged weapon, drink a shadow potion/hide and snipe from afar, while producing mob after mob of skelefodder.

You will rue the day you opposed me! Begin your rueing! I'll just... sit over here... and watch.

You don't actually have to fight him at this point.

If you lure him out of his room by running away, then drink a Shadow Potion he stops. Go around him and go to where the Stone Axe is. As soon as you find the room with the axe, he admits defeat and leaves.
