You wont get limit by armor type no matter what class your are, unless you mess up with your stats or dont know how to utilize charms and selecting accessories. There is a specific archmage set for mage, but its kinda junk consider its 1 of the end game armor set.

I thought scorpion armour was a good mage set, but it needs strength? Can anyone recomend the best sets?

Scorpion set is set for warrior, not mage. Arch mage set is the 1 for mage, which require only int to equip.

To me best set is ulthring set. Those 10 pieces set is all junkies, as you will be force to use those worthless accessories

Ulthring set can only be obtain by mind read the generals of the 4 flying fortress, where after you killed them, you can loot 1 part of the armor from their carcass. Ulthring set consist of only 4 armor parts.
