Hi all,

Hoping someone can help me out.
The game itself runs wonderfully, no issues whatsoever, until I get to a cut scene when a video from the video folder is supposed to play. At that point it just freezes and the only way I can continue is by pressing escape.

When I try playing those video's from the video folder they run, but not quite well. The video and sound aren't in sync and only when I rewind the video will they be in sync.

Just all sounds to me like a codec issues but no clue how to fix it. Possibly something with the WM9 one.

I've tried installing the K light codec pack, also tried uninstalling all the players I used (Winamp, VCL, DIVIX) and then playing it (no luck) then installed K-light (no luck) and then VCL and I'm back to the original situation. And the WM9 file available is only for XP and not Vista (which I am running)

Not sure what info you all need but here's my system info:

Operating System: Windows Vista™ Home Premium (6.0, Build 6002) Service Pack 2 (6002.vistasp2_gdr.100608-0458)

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9550 @ 2.83GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.8GHz
Memory: 3326MB RAM
Video Card name: ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series (Dark Knight edition)

P.S. this is the steam version of Dragon Knight Saga

Let me know if you need want any other info, and hope you can help me out.

Regards,

G.

Are your drivers up to date? Can you send a dxdiag to support@larian.com?

hi Ava,

Yup the drivers are up to date as far as I know.
Sent a mail to support, but not quite sure what your SLA's are since I've not heard back for 3 days.
Hence I thought I'd give the forums a try.
(I know I'm unpatient, and there's people with worse problems, but would love to play the game with the video's)

It seems that, based on your dxdiag, you do not have the latest ati drivers, you can download the latest drivers via this link:

Can you try installing this:

http://www.mediaplayercodecpack.com/

I think you're missing the wm9 codec, so this might help.

Installed it and did a restart, unfortunately no change.

Not sure if this is helpful but I tried running the video's from the folder in Windows Media Player and it came up with the error that the Windows Media Video 9 (WMV3) codec is not installed.

Is Windows Media Player set as your default media player ?

If not, try it as that used to cause bugs for Oblivion and Fallout 3

It may make no difference because lets face it, scratching your armpit could cause a bug in a Bethesda game.

Oops, you posted while I was typing, disregard the above and see if updating Windows Media Player chucks that codec in for you.

Ok tried that, unfortunately no go either.

I did notice one more thing, I've got a G15 gaming keyboard and on it it shows if your playing tracks. On the display it says Tutorial_Arrival but doesn't play, unfortunately pressing play or rewind or next track etc doesn't do anything either. But I guess it means it's trying to initialize the video.

Hmm, am unfamiliar with it and its modus operandi but wonder if the drivers for it are causing a conflict by hooking into what your playing, have you got a backup keyboard laid about you could plug in and try, I'm clutching at straws but if you get the same thing with a diffo keyboard then you know your G15 isnt causing the problem.

Nope I know it's not the keyboard, my wife has the same keyboard and it's running just fine on her PC.
Has most likely something to do with drivers and the WM9 codec to be specific..

Thanks though for any suggestions and ideas smile

Sorry none of that worked for you Garod, but I do have another suggestion.

Wait till she goes to the loo and swap her computer for yours.

Hope you get it working.

that might actually work.. they basically look the same...
hmm though better not, our sofa in the living room isn't that comfortable to sleep on.
hmmm maybe I'm being optimistic here, I meant the shed in the garden can get cold at night.

Thats the downside for us blokes, too many priviliges to lose.

You could check on hers to see if her setup ie: drivers and codecs etc differs to yours much, or even copy the codecs etc off hers and dump em into yours, if thats possible to do.

Have to tell you I'm a bit wary of simply copying things over.
First I wouldn't know what to copy and second, I am not sure if it's as simple as copying them over, I would assume they would need to get registered somehow so that windows knows that they are there and to utilize them.

I'm not sure either, when you go to the folder that the video's are in and double click one to run it, does it open windows media player or does it open another player ?

Windows Media player will result in the error I mentioned above ( Windows Media Video 9 (WMV3) codec is not installed )
VCL plays it but sound and video aren't synced.

unfortunately the link on the main page for WM9 is only for XP and the one ava sent didn't have any results.
I googled it, but don't really want to start messing with codec packs in case this makes things more compliaced.

That is the problem here indeed, for some reason you don't have the standard wm vid 9 codec. If you don't get the videos to play in the windows media player, you won't get them to play in the game. I'll look around a bit on google, see if I can find a decent codec pack for you.
