Stabbey and I were discussing (yet again) what features and changes would make the game more enjoyable.

My idea was, in order to make multiplayer campaign more interesting, why not include the generals too?
Perhaps if you were to choose one general in the lobby, the same way we choose our dragon. During the game these generals would then earn exp for leading battles and gain exp. They would then have a skilltree which would let you specialize your strategy, adding more depth to the multiplayer campaign.
While this point in the update
'- research during combat is only possible in skirmish games now'
Is extremely important for the feeling of choices and consequences, I think adding the generals would make it even more interesting.

The generals could be a classless system, basically the same way the dragons are right now, but specialized as they gain exp.
Or be a class system.

So would they be a unit that you can control or would they control themselves? or something completely different?

More of a passive unit, like they are in the campaign right now. Think of them as a player card

Hmmm... I just remembered one potential problem: A general is fine for auto-resolving, but RTS combat happens if ANY player wants to play in RTS mode, so having a general would need to grant some bonus in RTS mode, it can't just be an auto-resolve bonus.

I'm not thinking of them as an autoresolve-only bonus, more of a permanent player card, sort of.

Okay, but what could it do on the RTS map?

Tactical spells maybe? LIke what you can do in Dragon Mode, but less powerful, and with the benifit of still being able to fully control your troops
