I understand that each hero can be controlled by a player, but on the Divinity - Original Sin wiki page, there's a statement that says it goes up to 4 players.

Is this confirmed? If so, how? Do they take control of the henchmen? And do the henchmen players have to follow the hero players around or are they also considered to be individual players?

If not confirmed, disregard the paragraph above.

I think the statement is very old. I think it was originally planned for four people but they reduced it because thats a lot easier.(imagine the dialogs for four people compared to two).

Its for 2 Players, 2 main heroes, each hero can have a companion or henchmen, and if you skilled it you can summon something.

But with the Mod Tool it is possible to create missions for up to 6 friends.

The engine supports up to four players. The campaign is only a 2-player campaign, but that doesnt stop you from creating a 4-player campaign
