Since a big part of the game will be the walls of text, is there any chances there will be an option to change font size and color? Would be really nice, especially for people with bad eyesight.

That is under big a question, actually. The feedback about small font issues was coming since Divinity 2 release and yet in Dragon Commander we can see exactly the SAME mistakes, all over again.

So, my answer for now is no, unless something extraordinary happen.

Damn, that's really a bad thing. Well i still hope for the best. I wonder if there is any way to change this through some .ini =D And maybe Larian will listen to us.

I remember that it will be voiced over, at least the main quest.

Is it me who imagined this ?

ketarn;
There will be an editor for the game, so if there are no official text options, it may be possible to mod the text size (though the UI itself I don't think will be easily moddable).
The alpha should start by November; I wouldn't expect the UI / options to be final by then, but there will likely be feedback on the text if some people find it small at high resolutions, or otherwise hard to read.

Kein;
It is hardly a mistake to not devote resources to a feature for Dragon Commander when I don't recall seeing any complaints at all about the text size. An adjustable font size would be nice (and there were some requests for that during development), but it isn't a standard feature for games and apparently wasn't a high enough priority to get to (assuming it was on the to-do list).

Althor;
Some significant dialog from main plot characters will be voiced, but most will not.

May be, but there could appear many problems, like text not fitting the menu, dialogues bars, etc. And besides, there needs to be someone who will care enough to make such mod (which may take some time as well). So it is a barely reliable option.

I still don't quite understand why they can't make the font/size user set-able and scale appropriately. My mail client has been doing this since 2002; and I've written software to do this sort of thing over 10 years ago (caveat I'm not a widows developer so maybe windows api sucks?)

Having said this I've no problems with DC's text and in fact I can't remember a PC game where text size has been an issue though if I get old enough it might become one sooner or later wink

Hi guys. Just as a heads-up: the fonts and texts you have seen in earlier footage of the game are not final. The UI is still being worked on, and I hope you'll start seeing the fruits of our labor before long.

@meme, I'm glad to read you had no problems with the DC text. Because, in fact, we're using the same design philosophy for the DOS texts, so it should work out.
Unfortunately, making a UI that scales to font sizes isn't as easy to do as a UI that scales to resolution, especially if you want to keep some of the unique flavor we want to add to it. After all, this is a fantasy RPG, and not a windows app wink

But rest assured, legibility, text hierarchy, relevant information first, are all very high up the priority list when designing a user interface.

Would it be possible to set the UI resolution separately from the game resolution?

Heh, only if we run it in a separate window, I think. wink And I have to apologize, I used the words "not as easy" I should have used "nigh impossible" smile
A scaling UI, where each panel scales up or down uniformally sounds like the good solution, but it really would take up a lot of development resources. So making a UI that bypasses the issue altogether sounds like an even better idea.

And as you were saying, you're making a (good) RPG, not a windows app. I found that to tell me all I needed to know :p

Unless otherwise specified, just an opinion or simple curiosity.

I would so much love to have a larger font. Unfortunately I'm not able to play the game on a 62 inch TV...though that sure would be sweet.

Every time there I run into trouble on the road, there is always a dwarf at the bottom of it. Don't they know how to drive above ground?

That doesn't really help, from my experience. Unless you don't get headaches from prolonged sitting too close to a TV.

What is so good about spoken RPG if you can't read dialogues properly (and actual good RPG features *a lot* of text) or your eyes start to hurt after half of hour?

Always liked spoken dialog myself, just brings a little something more to the game world when actually hearing people / things interact with you.

I remember the first time I heard spoken dialog in an RPG, I was playing Ancient Land of Y's on my Turbo Graphics 16 Console back in the day and not all dialog was spoken, but got to one point in the game and the NPC portrait came up, with dialog, then I heard the voice bit come in I had an eargasm from super awesome coolness.

As far as reading text ingame, it can be very distressing at times depending on the font, the background, and amount of text. The fairly recent "Inquisitor" RPG is a perfect example of text that make your eyes scream.

I pledged and all I got was this lousy awesome game!

The resolution of that picture is really weird... Was it resized or did you cut some parts out to only show the fonts? But if it's that bad on let's say 1080p then yeah, that's bad.

It is 720p. I just removed unnecessary part.

It is not better on 1080p as well and bigger font was requested many times on their forums.
