Alpha Update V 1.0.93 - January 21st 2014

Hi everybody,

We just released an update for Divinity:Original Sin on Steam Early Access that solves the hottest issues that were flagged.

Here is the changelist:

- Fixed item disappearing when loading a savegame
- Messagebox will prompt when saving has failed (this will help us track if there are any more savegame issues)
- Changed armor calculations so damage is absorbed correctly (it wa wrong which is why melee and ranger characters were so weak)
- Added more feedback when hitting
- Re-enabled Critical hits
- Companions are correctly assigned to players (There still is one issue when you load a game in multiplayer. If it pops up, just fire your companions and hire them again)
- Fixed several crashes concerning item combinations
- Added more skill tooltips
- Added more feedback during network connections to help us track problems
- Added a network log file

We're working on a bigger update but might still release an intermediate hotfix in the coming days if we find a solution for the 32 bit OS problem or why savegames don't write away all files on certain systems.

Thanks for the communication and allowing us to give you our thoughts and constructive feedback. While it may give you a lot of extra crap to deal with given the typical caliber of steam early access forum-goers, I hope that all the suggestions and bug reports out of the rest of us make it worth your while and worth our while with the (hopefully) improved final product.

Thanks for the hotfix.

Unfortunately saved games are still not working for me. When I try to make a new save I get a message saying "Savegame failed (copy to levelcache failed). Please report this". Sometimes a saved game still appears in the list, but when I load it the game CTDs.

Also the Alt key seems to no longer work to highlight items.

Saved games a problem for me also, receiving the same error message: "Savegame failed (copy to levelcache failed). Please report this"

Alt key is working for me however. Will continue to test that as I move along.

This might have been reported already, but I'm unable to scroll the camera in and out while in Abilities, Talents or Traits. It works fine in Equipment however.

Many of the arrowheads appear to be broken now post-patch. I left a thread on the topic here:

Edit: Actually, crafting in general seems to be broken now post-patch.

I assume this one means in coop we can each have a companion. However still not working.

When I load in I have 3 characters, coop friend 1 as we left it last evening. I try to move either Madora or Jahan between ownership with the mouse drag no go. Then i fire one or both, they go to the King Crab. I go to hire, I hire but they don't actually join the team. If I talk to them, they think they are on the team but they aren't following or the avatar isn't showing on the left side linked. I can fire again and rehire as many times as I want in text but the characters will not join the group again in any way.

Abilities, talents and traits have a scroll bar (possibly disabled if if you don't have more than one ability category open, or an awful lot of traits), which take precedence over the camera zoom.

When I start the game, should I see this patch number 1.0.93 in the upper right hand corner of the game? Mine still says v1.0.87.0 and Steam seems to think that there is no update required. The game seemed to start right up without downloading anything, so I'm suspicious that Steam doesn't know about the update for me somehow. I'm a Kickstarter backer rather than Steam Early Access if that makes any difference. All the previous updates worked just fine and I haven't changed anything.

That's impossible.

Alright. Do the following:

1. Check for Steam client updates.
2. Right-click on the game in the library -> Properties -> Update -> Hight priority
3. Quit the game and Steam
4. Start again
5. Try to play the game or validate cache.

it should enforce the update

I've been having a decent number of random people join my games, quite annoying. They seem to be able to join from the Steam Groups.

Honestly tried all that, with a computer reboot in between as well. At this point I just decided to uninstall and reinstall. We'll see what happens.

*edit* - well that worked at least. *shrug*

Should have just waited a bit longer, I get steam issues for updates all the time and 10 min to half an hour to saying bugger this and going to bed, eventually it figures out something needs an update.

Ok, so with the new patch I started a new game, and as per usual I chose to fight against the two drunk soldiers on the beach for exp points and +1 independant (who'd want to be obediant, right?).

Anyways, with the corrections to armor calculations and, subsequently corrections to the damage with melee and ranged weapons, I find myself in a somewhat unfair fight, seeing as where I hit for 3-6 damage with the starting sword and 1-4 with the starting bow, the sword/shield soldier (Junius) strikes between 15-25 per melee attack and the bow soldier (Bibius) strikes from 13 to 22 with bow and around 8-12 with dagger.

(All damages are approximations based on a limited amount of attempts and do not necessarily represent the actual scale of a**kicking you will receive in this fight.)

This does limit your course of action to being an obedient dog (NOOOOOO!!!) and going with the soldier escort service, or alternatively you can get yourself killed before the game truly begins.

Thought I'd point this out for future starting area balance changes.

Abuse current mechanics and attack them a few times from afar if you can before the fight starts, I decided to do 2 mages on my new playthrough and teleported them both down to about 1/4th health before walking up to them and initiating the fight. Note that killing them outside of combat gives you no exp so be careful. Outside of those 2 however, the combat seems to be better.

Also still having trouble with saves, and now see the ""Savegame failed (copy to levelcache failed). Please report this"" message.

Occasionally, it will look like it creates a save game via an entry in the list, but still presents the error message.
Attempting to Save Over that slot still fails, and interestingly, that slot requires to be deleted twice to remove it. It does refresh and change the thumbnail preview after the first delete.

Go get a few crates and bring them near the two guards.Pick them up in the fight and throw them at the guards.will do more damage than your weapon.
