I'd like some custom character portraits in Riftrunner. It's one thing I really liked about the Baldur's Gate series, and I think it would be a really good idea.

I agree! A lot of games, even strategy fantasy games, are letting players add their own custom portraits. It adds a lot to the game without the creator having to do a lot of work.
