Hi everyone. I'm loving the game so very much thus far, but have had one issue that has been bugging me:

I'm just wondering if I'm the only one who ends up running my characters around in combat instead of clicking. I've had some issues with mousing over enemies to attack, with often the result being I slightly misclick and end up running to them with no way to step back a step in combat and undo that awful mistake. It's been a bit frustrating.

Am I just clumsy, or has anyone else had issues or a solution? Almost makes me wish for a vanilla attack hotkey so I could click to move when I wanted to and click to attach when I wanted to.

Again, love the game and the stories. Most fun I've had in an RPG in years (since the Baldur's Gate II and IWD Days)

Nope, you are not the only one. It can be sometimes very frustrating indeed: you hover with the mouse over an enemy and just when you click to attack, the mob performs some kind of an animation (swaying, changing the leg, stretching etc.) and you end up clicking on the ground and running towards the enemy.

So, it sounds like what might help here is an option (and I stress option, since not everyone will want it) to be prompted with a confirmation box before the game executes your order. Because it's not just movement, in the example you gave above your intention may have been to move near the mob when a swaying animation suddenly resulted in clicking on the mob to attack.

Although, maybe the confirmation could just be limited to "execute movement?" prompts, since those tend to happen more often. And it would be listed in the options menu as "Confirm movement orders in combat?", or something.

The mode toggle (attack/move) discussed above is an alternative, but it's still vulnerable to user-end mistakes.

You just need to take a bit more time aiming, not rush it. Zoom in a bit closer. Try to aim at characters/enemies feet, or a circle - not upper body or its head.

There is plenty of time to aim properly in turn based mode if you play in a more relaxed rhythm.

Hello Ilvidus,

Welcome to the forums!

What your experiancing is a targeting issue where other items and even the main characters get in the way of your target and your mouse pointer cannot properly highlight the enemy. Sometimes rotating the camera helps. It is easy to run into this issue when combat gets intense and I've found myself cursing my characters for running around instead of attacking like expected. I'm really hoping this targeting issue is resolved prior to the release of the full game...or these forums will flood with complaints.

Everyone here in the beta has experienced it and knows your pain.

Every time there I run into trouble on the road, there is always a dwarf at the bottom of it. Don't they know how to drive above ground?

Thanks for the responses. I am glad to know I'm not crazy. I will try out some of the suggestions. Hopefully something will get worked out. I love the action point system--fell for that style in new XCOM and this brought back found memories except for misclicks. Just with general punishing nature of combat (fire spells are my bane), the mistakes snowball and make me feel utterly incompetent. I'm hoping practice and tips help!

Thanks for posting this. I logged on with the intention of starting a thread and you have already done it. I some times find it almost impossible to target an enemy that I am standing right next to. It might just be me but it seams harder to target the closer I am to them.

Yeah thank you for giving us the info. I found my self from time to time running around the enemy even though I had an attack icon. Always bad when you attack your self by mistake.
