Hey folks!

I just installed on Steam and I'm trying to make a single player party. I end up on the beach with them, but when I hit F5 to save, I get booted out of the game completely.

When I restart, even my profile is gone and I have to start over.

Where do the save games go? (And does folder redirection perhaps hamper this in any way? I've redirected both My Documents and Application Data to my home server using group policies.)

Profiles and saves are stored in My Documents. Each save is a folder in the '..\Documents\Larian Studios\Divinity Original Sin\PlayerProfiles\<ProfileName>\Savegames' folder.

Try starting D:OS, change some settings and exit, then restart the game and see if your profile is recognized.

I don't know if folder redirection will cause problems.
Please email supportdos@larian.com, with a description of the problem and the report.zip file generated by the D:OS support tool (for the PC version). Even if NAS isn't supported, the crash dumps included may help Larian figure out where the problem is.

I ran the tool and it concluded I was missing the C++ redist. I installed it, got green across the board, but saving still crashed me to the desktop.

In the end I changed my group policy to restore my Documents folder to its original location (C:\users\...)

After a reboot (and a long wait for the system to copy all of my stuff back to the SSD) I was able to play the game and save.

Let's hope they get this sorted eventually, I don't like having my documents on my system drive.

I have this same issue and cannot have documents stored locally. In my case, the game did not even create the Larian\DOS folder. I created manually and it still crashes.

Larian needs to fix this or let us save to an alternate location or refund my money

I don't think its its a local file issue. I have my folders on a different local drive and the problems are the same. No saved profile and game crashes on save (and when trying to enter the tutorial dungeon- but that's a separate issue) The latest update via steam hasn't addressed it either.

So it's My Docs in the regular windows defined spot or bust.

That's a bit shortsighted of the devs, if you ask me. Especially considering the lack of room on affordable SSD's. (Granted, I have 2 256GB drives in stripe so I can house a fair number of Steam games, but I prefer not to have my documents on a volume that has double the chance of failure.)

Perhaps using a symlink might work, but that still wouldn't give me the opportunity to redirect to my server.

Maybe once we get steam cloud saves this gets resolved.

Very short sighted or untested. I have lots of Steam games that save to My Docs and don't have this issue - they work online and offline.

The weird problem I am seeing is that the game didn't even create the folders in My Docs. I added them manually based on the above direction from Larian, and then once there you can see some files populate into those folders.

I think the save is crashing because it cannot create the folders for whatever reason so it just crashes.

SymLink may be worth a try as I have done that with another game before.
