I wonder, how does music work in the game? and how much power do we have to alter it, personalize it?

I can clearly notice that, say, battle music makes use of playlists. but how? and how much are those customizable? are they situational to the place we fight?

dungeons: does each one have its own unique tune?

I'd love to splice in the music from the original Divine Divinity - some of those songs were utterly amazing. I did the same with Fallout 3 - added music from Fallout 1 & 2 which led to far better atmosphere.

Add to my post a question for the devs: is content portable between games?

You can import any music/sound file you like, as long you convert it. You can set global musix on within a specific radius. Trigger it whenever you want.

I appreciate this.
BUT, I need more information. I am a fan of synthesis, but this is a bit too much laugh

as an example.

problem is, I still don't get how customizable this is. nor I understand how to actually add new music, a customized track, say, for each area and for each battle in the area, nor how to make each boss battle enjoy its customized music. nor I understand how much the engine supports looping, cuepoints and other special effects.

EDIT: there are tracks from beyond divinity and divine divinity (sighs of elvenkind) as well laugh I see little, if nothingm from the Dragon Knight saga tho.

all .lsx files can be opened in Notepad++
it's very crude, but better than nothing.

Well, actually I think they went down a bad road with the music files considering they wanted to make the game moddable and the editor accessible to the broad public. It is a good choice, probably even the best one for game designers and hobby modders. But it is not easily accessible, here is why:

The sound files used are called wwise soundbanks or short "*.bnk" . Wwise is a programm by Audiokinetic and is a professional tool for creating soundeffects and music for cross-platform games. This means it is a very powerful tool, espc. with its SDKs and addons. However, this means also it is fairly complex and "just converting a *.wav or even *.mp3 to *.bnk" is NOT possible (mp3 not supported, but that there are good reasons for that). The reason is the way a *.bnk sound file saves information about various effects and not just the audio part, so it is easily used inside an editor.

Information about Wwise:
https://www.audiokinetic.com/products/wwise/

FREE license (slow) download:
https://www.audiokinetic.com/downloads/

If you want to get into creating *.bnk files check the TUTORIALS on Wwise:

Chris
