Trying to get an idea of how much story is left for me. I was able to attempt to fight Braccus all the way as low as lvl 9, surely he isn't the final boss?

I actually made the attempt before I ever set foot into the forest area to the north, which I am now enjoying instead of trying to fight Braccus.

He can't be the final boss as it seems silly to allow you to be able to fight/kill him before even going into the other "half" of the world?

Not even close. Though he is mentioned a lot throughout the game.

Braccus is the boss of what could be called the Act 1 (first zone, Cyseal).
There are 3 zones/acts in the game (4 if you count Hibberheim, but it's part of the second one).
