Seems to me as if half the folks there did not play through the first dungeon.
The nuances of are just amazing! Your character can be standing there watching a skeleton tap his mace against it's hand bones. It does not attack you untill it sees you or you make a sound. Or how about when fighting a skeletal archer and you are to close to it for it to pull it's bow, so it starts kicking you! LOL! How could anyone compair that to Diablo? Where monsters just attack you willy nilly from all directions without provication?
To me there is just no contest. I admit I have not played Lionheart. For some reason it just doesn't appeal to me. So I cannot speak of Lionheart. Maybe I will download the demo then come back and give MHO. So, IMHO rules! BBFN! Myslynx

It's a term for fighting, fighting, fighting and more fighting.
When all is about fighting, so much that it gets boring to most ppl.

I agree with Mslynx, there is no comparision with and Diablo( it just plain out stunk), I played all three.
Where is the link for Lionheart demo again?

Gasp, a tragedy when one speaks so low of Diablo, whether it was the classic original, or the sequels expansion. Perhaps Diablo does not have a 24 hour day where the sun will fall and rise. Maybe it doesn't go into as much detail as Divine Divinity in parts. In Diablo you can not enters ones house. Divine Divinity does have better graphics, and more quests. However, I can honestly say, in my opinion, I don't believe Divine Divinity would be around if Diablo had never been created. Divine Divinity almost 100% copied the stat level upgrade from the orignal Diablo. They are almost identical, even the names of the categories. The skill system in DD is rather weak, and inferior compared to the masterful one in that of Diablo II's. Diablo's / II's characters may not have had the AI of the enemies in DD, however, I've never been as challanged in DD as I have been in Diablo, regardless of how smart the enemies are. Does DD have free internet play? Well, Diablo / Diablo II both had a successful, which still remains running well today, where 50K - 60K players log on each day. When we talk about lasting appeal, I don't think you can even compare the two. When I beat DD I am not going to play through it a second time, and there is no internet play. When I finished playing Diablo as a Necromancer, I signed onto Battle.net and literally devoted probably 500 - 600 hours of gameplay into that title. The cinamatics in DD also look weak compared to that of both Diablo's, even the original. Diablo II didn't sell over 5 million copies for no reason, lets not forget that. Diablo was the popular, innovative title that mostly started it all. Hence the reason why so many titles are called Diablo Clones. Diablo revolutionized that section of the industry in which all games would be compared against it. Even Divine Divinity. If Divine Divinity II comes out, and earns that right to set the new benchmark for action RPG games, than I will find it reasonable to speak of Diablo as inferior. None the less, you have your opinion. Obviously I am a Diablo fan, and the fact I enjoyed Diablo, Diablo II, Lord Of Destruction, so much, influenced me to buy Divine Divinity. It also influence me to buy Record Of Lodoss war on Dreamcast, and Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance on PS2. It is also the reason why I will most likely buy Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance 2 and Riftrunner come this holiday season. It influence me to buy other action RPG games, as I am sure it influenced thousands of others to buy these titles. Not to say Diablo is the only game that set a new bench mark in the pc RPG game industry, Baldurs Gate did as well. Most titles, like Never Winter Nights, or Icewind Dale is compared to Baldurs Gate. Titles like Dungeon Siege become compared against Diablo. Titles that share Baldurs Gate / Diablo elements, like Divine Divinity, and Prince Of Qin for example are measured up to both those titles. I am also sure, if a Diablo III ever comes out, it will be the next action rpg in which all games in that genre are compared against.

Ah, now RP I to have played Diablo And LOD for hours on end! Both single and multi LAN and on Battlenet.I have 4 Hell characters. Do not get me wrong here. I enjoyed the games very much! What I was refering to was the way the A.I. in the game was. I could load up LOD right now and step into a new area and the monsters would just start attacking. In the monsters have to see or hear you befor they attack, that is what I was talking about. was created as a single player game so that a player could get the full experience of playing. When I joined this forum one of my first questions was about multi play.I lost track of friends for months while playing and probebly will again when comes out. Oh well. I do not in any way shape or form slam Diablo games. But f.y.i. it has come to light that was in some form of production in the mid 90's. So I would say that Blizzard managed to get their game out first. What was it 96? If I am wrong about that do let me know. Anyway, I belive they are all great games.
I just don't think the similarities are all that concrete. Oh and you forgot when quoting me that "IMHO rules!" So how about Lionheart?

I remember discussing features that were later in Doablo, for example Teleportwers and no-level continuation of the landscape (expression (C) Alrik F. ).

Actually i loved playing Diablo....it's just that i finished it 9 times
( 3 for each char)
and i had every weapon there was to have...... and i reused my char to start new games with...... .......

then came along, and it was like, Diablo......only much, much better!!

The music, the quests, the interaction, the maps, the teleporters, the scenery....
all done way better than those "other games"
and it kept me entertained.....for well.......a whole year so far.....
between this forum and the game.......i'm still playing....... ,
now if i had been playing Diablo i would have already completed it
8 or 9 times already....
so if i keep at my current pace of playing....
i've still got another 7-8 yrs before i've played this game 9 times through!
and then there's always 2 and as well..

... i'm gonna be a busy Orc
for the next dozen yrs or so!!

It seems that a lot of people on that forum thinks that DD is just a Diablo rip off. They mostly start thinking that when going through the first dungeon. But they are so wrong. DD is so much more the Diablo2. DD has the same amount of questst in the first town than D2 has in the whole game.

It is still interesting to read what those people have to say about DD. They say everything what they think, not knowing that the people from this forum are watching them.

I can imagine that.

1. The gaming mags ALWAYS posed near D2.

2. The first Dungeon looks somewhat like D2.

I can imagine they have this point of view.

Divine Divinity isn't a "Diablo Ripoff," but to say it doesn't have numerous elements that Diablo originally had is just a lie, whether or not they started making the games around the same time. I like Divine Divinity, and I am in no way knocking this title. It is good to see that the people who said that of Diablo enjoyed the Diablo game itself. As for sound, I personally thought Diablo had amazing sound, both in game play, and cinematics. The characters voices in Diablo I thought were a lot better. No question about it, Divine Divinity has better graphics. I think the games are comparable, but I just think Diablo was better. In my opinion. Its nice to see a message board where people can state their opinions with out being made fun of over it.

I am playing lionheart right now.

I do like it. I think it is well made in its own way.

The content in the lionheart adventure is about 1/10 that of divine divinity

It is a relatively short adventure. There is relatively much less that goes on.
It is much smaller.

They are similar games in a way. I like things about both games.

I liked more things about Divine Divinity.

I might give DD a 9 and Lionheart a 7.

The last part of DD is hack and slash with just a million things to kill in a maze. A great deal of lionheart is also a million things to kill in a maze.

with forewarning & a grain of salt, lionheart can be played with less anticipation & therefore less disappointment.

yes, this means i got my copy of the game finally.

the premise of lionheart is smaller in scale & the storyline somewhat more immediate(should be anyway) but the gameplay isn't that all disappointing.

the hack & slash factor of lionheart is similar to DD's romp through dark forest & wastelands as well as iona's dungeon(no more dungeon crawl in the future please). yes it does have quests among the H&S 2 make the killings more meaningful & it does! which is a surprise 2 me. & i think larian can do the same kind of thing for RRR & DD2. more meaningful actions for our characters. after all the game's RPG!

check out this link on RPG history.

another plus for lionheart. the dialogues are great. whenever they are spoken, they're always top quality voice acting. what made the game loses out 2 DD is the background, ambient sound that make the game environment alive. man, u thought a city like barcelona is always noisy as it's naturally filled with people. & it sounds so dead in the game.

another minus 2 lionheart which translates 2 a plus in DD is the music. the lack of soundtracks for most game areas plus the annoying loops(the music stops for no reason & loops & stops somewhere & loops & etc..). & they got a good composer(who did BG2 tracks). why can't they utilise the dude well enough?

let's hope RRR & DD2 will continue 2 have many many memorable soundtracks for us 2 enjoy.

btw, mine's a gift(as always) from a relative who lives in the states. so my judgement(which excludes price factor) is incomplete.
