This might be a really dumb question, but I can't find the answer anywhere: What is the easiest, fastest, most efficient way to get my hands on the most essence as quickly as possible?

I am level 7 and have never run across essence.

I don't recall at what level you start to see Essence in shops, but you should start seeing them pretty soon. Killing elementals does drop them on occasion as well, but I don't think that you face them until later.

*minor spoilers*

-Once you get to the snow area, you'll get quite a few.
-As you obtain more Star/Blood stones and open up more rooms at the End of Time, there will be 4 merchants who will always have in stock 1 of the essences- one will have fire, one will have water, etc. They restock these every time you level up.
-Any merchant, particularly crafting-material selling ones (buy at first opportunity!).
