It takes more than one point. It's one point for level one, two for level two, etc. You'll need to save up a bit if you want to continue leveling it.

The cap is 5 + gear and boni.
I would highly recommend not investing in weaponskills though.
Around level 10 you unlock
the ability to use Tenebrium Weapons. You can either directly buy them or enchant your weapons with Tenebrium (similar to the elemental damage that you find on many weapons), which means your bonus damage will get calculated based on your level in Tenebrium Weapons instead of your weapon skill. Unlike the regular weapons, you will be able to get +1 Tenebrium for your entire party and find a book that gives another +1 to a single char, so your skill with these weapons can be higher than the other weapon types.

I don't think it matters. Regular weapons treated with
Tenebrium
still use your normal weapon skills.
I finished the game without anyone in my party having a
Tenebrium
weapon. smile

I found you do way enough damage with the right skillset/talents/tactics instead of investing 15 ability points just to get +50% damage.

boni -> bonuses. The OED cites 'bonuses' as the correct plural. 'Boni' is spurious Latin grammar deformed by the internet.

Vandraman - you are my hero. Thank you for correcting 'boni'. Every time I read that word some strange crotch joke or morning wood image would pop into my head, and it was driving me crazy. I thought it just another feeble attempt at lazy language, like 'fave', and 'delish', and all those other utter retard nonsensical word references. Seriously, Vandraman is latin for hero. Rock on.

*Laughs* I find it's often those trying to look smart, personally. I haven't seen that one all that often, though, so perhaps it's catching on as a TXT-speak thing. I've learned to typically just roll my eyes at it.
