I had no crashes so far, Virgo, just these strange freezes with trolls, when I came back to kill them instead of finishing them off for the first time.

@Raven: No clue, how long you will take - I finished all quests in Hommlet. Yes, those frogs near the Moathouse are not dangerous - wait, until you meet the Bephemot Bullfrog north of Nulb . He has CR 6.

How are you faring with the Bugbears?

I loved the frogs. They're so cute. Were the frogs in the original PnP module, or were they added in homage to Monte Cook's "Return to..." module?

The great thing about the frogs in Monte's doohickey is that they set the players up. They beat up some frogs and think they're hot stuff. They wander into the courtyard feeling cocky, out comes Big U and... blamo! eyes melt... skin explodes... it's just a hoot.

Anywayses, I finished the game last night in lieu of sleep. Great game. The combat mechanics are very well done, and unlike Pool of Radiance 2, you don't watch zombies walk for 30 minutes before your next opportunity to expose the flawed random number generator by missing yet again. I don't really care how authentic it is, nor do I care about turn-based vs. real-time. All I care about is whether I'm having fun, ya know? And I did. The model animation is really good and fun to just watch.

My only complaints are with the interface. Picking specific objects on the playing surface is difficult, and the lack of configurable gamma and mouse speed made the game physically uncomfortable to play for a 30-something guy who's spent too many years coding. There are pathing issues and the mouse feels like it's being polled for updates so it's sluggish. But I'm sure they're patching all that stuff up right this second.

Also, does it seem to anyone else that the radial menu takes more screen space and is more difficult to read and navigate than a standard menu would be? The words are at an angle, the pie-slice menu items are different sizes on either end making it annoying to have to think about the route your mouse is taking. It's not that it's impossible to use, just that it puts your attention on the interface rather than on playing, while offering no benefits in exchange. I don't like to think about the interface. My hands' muscle-memory should take over after a few hours of playing.

... so I stripped down to nothing but a Super Big Gulp cup and rubberband, and ran up the street screaming "Swing me, gringo!"

Yes.

I hate radial menus. Very much. One of the reasons I can't stand NWN.

Goldy, I'm curious, what did you do with the boss enemy there? Spared him? Took him into your party? Killed him?

whatever you do...DON'T take him into your party and do that quest! He takes you directly to the Temple of Elemental Evil..and trust me...he has..lackys there that are not so easy to beat...yeah, they have relatively low hit points but there are like 20 of them in this one tiny room! So if you value your LIFE don't do that quest yet...just kill him! hehe..you get more out of it that way.

ps..i came back to do that quest after going through Nulb..yeah..at a level 4 and it was still hard...there really wasn't much to do in Nulb surprisingly...i think that town was severely edited...not to meniton you find a gay guy hanging out on the streets that can join your party and the people talking about the brothels and your character being able to trash talk the wenches in the bars...all of this though i thought was pretty funny..haha...that's me for you!

I killed him and took his loot. I'm sure I'll find another way to the Temple...

there is another way to the temple..well think about it..this is the Temple of Elemental Evil were talking about..the main goal of the game..of course nothing can impede your way to that...it's like end-game...it pretty much automatically becomes accesicible as soon as you start talking around Nulb..i think you have to talk to the blacksmith to get him to add it to your map though..not sure.i can't remember.

There're at least two ways to the temple:

- Talk to Mother something in Nulb, the one who runs a herb shop.
- Talk to the blacksmith in Nulb.

If you let the cleric lead you to the temple, he'll lead you into a trap. A fight with some low-CR critters, but a big one -- at least two dozens are in the fight, fighters, wizards, archers, etc.

I just let the Cleric go - I could have killed him if the fight had been at one go, but it was interrupted - and if I'm asked to spare someone, I do it. - I guess, my paladin wouldn't have liked him in the group.

Hope, the patch comes out soon - the Temple is no fun with my chars getting stuck everywhere - and paladin was not my best choice, can't do a lot of quests for the Temple priests there, just kill. Though I still think it's strange: My paladin is not allowed to let a party member take part in a drinking contest - but she is obviously allowed to gamble (fire priests)

kiya, what happens it you kill someone that is not evil? Do you lose your paladin abilities? A special note should have been put in tha paladin section about all the restictions. Glad I did not take one.

No, I can apparently kill those who are not evil - if they attack me, what most temple members do anyhow. I'm just accepting their quests, I can even fulfill them, but I can't get XP for them from the priests, report makes me fall.
Example: I was asked to kill a snake bothering the orc cook = did so and what happened? My Pallie was a fallen one as soon as I reported back to the priest.

On the other hand, a minor priest asked me to get an item by gambling: did so, gave it back and didn't fall. I accept quests, so the temple members there don't attack me at once. I can scoop around and level up before I clean out all parts. Why? Cause I went in for the Fire Priest, seems to be the hardest level.

About not giving explicite restriction infos in the manual: I guess, they believe, all know the Ad&D 3.5 regulations for paladins and other classes. My BIG prob is, I've always played the 2nd edition of AD&D on pen&paper - sniff.

It's annoying - on the other hand: Those who created the game, stuck pretty closely to the rules, not this wishy-washy easy BG stuff, where only the simple rules were used (not 100% 2nd edition). It's a game for people with pen&paper knowledge - I like this

Of course, you can play it without knowing the rules - as long as you don't play paladin - this makes it a bit boring for me: Bash in the doors, kill nearly everything that moves (except prisoners). I had to read the forum there closely to avoid fallen XP (5000 GP to get her good again! I'm NOT paying that, I rather reload) - and a few quests are in for me - but I can tell you this: I HATE paladins
I didn't even plan to play LG - I chose NG, but took a pallie into my group - big error.

There's a reason the Lawful Good alignment is dubbed by some "Lawful Stupid" -- especially when applied to a paladin. Snarky, snarky.
