Are these the worst trait picks possible?

You can get All Skilled Up for +2 Skill Points. Or you could give the trait to the demon for 10.

You can get Bigger and Better for 1 Ability Point. Or you can give it to the demon for 2.

Am I missing something here or are these two trait picks almost cripplingly worthless?

The advantage is that you can get them before you unlock the demon.

Sadly I have to say that they are both useless, while it is true that you can take those traits before the demon is unlocked it would still be better to either: save up those talents and wait or just take different talents.

So yeah, to date there is no reason as to why you would actually want any of these 2 traits.

I think it's worth mentioning that the game is most difficult during the first act, especially if you're trying to build a functioning hybrid. You can also just stock pile skill books and scrolls (crafting) and respec when you get to the demon.
