I'm only on act 2, never got past it before, I can't get through the black viper temple, I have to do it 'cos I need the other piece of the staff, I already got the cube (with a bit of luck) and the staff of kings, so going back isn't an option. I've got a level 18 paladin, is that high enough? I also got a morning star, damage 7-13, with a ruby, an emerald, and a rune socketed onto it, is that enough for where I am? Any replies will be greatly appreciated 'cos I really wanna get out of the desert!

I'm not sure I understand what your trouble is, but have you consulted some walkthroughs? Why are you unable to get through the Claw Viper temple -- I'm assuming that's what you're referring to? If it's because of the difficulty, I guess I won't be able to offer much help, as I played as a necromancer. (And farmed quite a bit of XP, which meant in that act, doing that quest, my character's level was over twenty.)

besides, we dont know what skills you have
Maybe you just need to train 2 levels more or so, balancing out your stats and skills

I guess the reason is the big snake at end, right? The one with the lightning.
As paladin, make sure the use zeal with healing or thorn.
Best would be to lvl a bit more.

This is why I chose the necromancer to play. Summon minions and just curse/bone-spirit/bone-spear away, usually emerging with 80% of my HP at the end of most fights. Yup, I was lazy and luxuriated in cowardi-- er, the safe comfort behind my revived monsters/skeletal mages/hireling.

By the way, the salamander (Fangskin) is lightning-enchanted and extra-fast, yes? This means: it has a double chance of hitting you, 75% resistance to lightning, moves quickly (also applies to its minions), and attacks twice as quickly as a normal monster, on top of its lightning-blast attacks. Do you have items with lightning resistance, or failing that, do you have topazs and some socketed shields?

Alright, but I haven't got that far yet! I've only got to the first part of the temple, and the salamanders keep killing me, I used to have over 10,000 gold but now i've only got 400, I plan to start again as a druid, but it takes too long. Any tips on beating the salamanders?

And by the way, I heard of a secret level, i've got the wirts leg and a tome of town portal, I went back to rogue encampment and transmuted them, but it said something, and it didn't work, do I need to do something else before it works?

the secret cow level : you have to defeat baal in order to do that.
It recuires wirts leg, and a tome of tp's.
You have to do it in act 1, on the difficulty level in which you have defeated baal.

Yes, that's the (in)famous "Cow Level". As far as I know it only works after you've already beaten the "Big Boss" at the very end of the game at least once.

Actually, I do remember hearing that you have to complete act 2 before the secret cow level opens, I went there once on a multiplayer game, the enemies there are harder then I ever imagined, has anyone else got there?

I've only been there on multiplayer, I've never seen the cow king, I might have killed him by accident 'cos I know he looks like all the others, only he casts a lightning attack. But it's worth it though, I went there with about 1000 gold and came back with over 6000!

If I remember correctly you can go to the cow level in all 3 levels Normal, Nightmare, & Hell. To do so you have to beat Baal and have Wurt's Leg and have a Tome of tele's (only 1 tele scroll has to be in there) and then you can go to the Cow Level in each of those levels that you complete.

It's disappointing, though. See, by the time you've completed normal level, the cow level is a cakewalk. It was for me. I estimate that by the time you've completed nightmare, nightmare's cow level wouldn't be all that challenging either. Eh.

(Okay, so I've got a necromancer, and I've got corpse explosion that makes any semblance of "challenge" moot, but still...)

Winterfox.
Hmm I wouldn't say that cow lvl was peace of cake. Yes, by the time you enter it you can fight 1-5 even 10 cows with no problem, but there are tons of them. And if you get surrounded nothing is gonna help.

I was stuck at the entrance to monastery with my necro in hell. Beating last boss on nightmare was very difficult.

THEMIGHTYONE As for defeiting monsters I would suggest going back and leveluping a bit.

You can try and kill first boss (that poison chick) 6-7 times. You will get nice exp plus bosses often drop nice items like uniques and rares.

@ winterfox, I dont agree with you.
Agreed, on normal level, when you have completed normal, the cows are easy.
When you completed nightmare, the cows are beatable too.

But in hell you need a strong player
I dont think a necromancer could pull it off easy unless he has some good items in his possesion.

Especially if you try it in a 8 player game, those cows have life.

And how do you want to kill a cow? with bone spirit??
That won't work, since you have 40 cows against you, and by the time you have killed one, your dead 2 yourself..

No offence

Bone spirit and bone spear? Weren't you reading my post? No offense, have you ever played a necromancer...?

Corpse explosion works on everything, to the best of my knowledge. In this case, cows, cows, more cows. All of them with similar amounts of HP. Lure a big group of them (my highest count was about twenty-something). Explode one bovine corpse, and the radius catches most of the others if I position it well. That's how I slaughtered them. I don't foresee a problem here, unless the cows in Hell are immune to corpse explosion. *shrugs* I don't have the patience (nor the masochism) to drag myself to complete Nightmare; it benumbs my higher brain functions after a while. (So did the Normal level, but then there was some promise of novelty.) I tried the cow level just to see what's all the fuss about.
