I'll tell you what happens. I have Deadly Gift skill lvl1. While playing, the active skill is usually special move or lockpick. I tried to use scorpion traps once, and that's what happened.
1. I activated deadly gift skill, but the image on the belt menu didn't change - I still saw the image of last used skill (lockpick). However, additional images of available traps (scorpions and trail bombs that I had in inventory at the moment) appeared above the menu.
2. When I rightclicked, white scorpions appeared and started killing my enemies, but my character started acting like she was picking locks! She was leaning forward and my cursor turned into a lockpick. But the biggest problem is, that there was nothing I could do about it. SAVE option in the main menu was unavailable! Switching to other skills didn't work. Left clicking (normal fight) didn't work!
3. I tried to use deadly gift after many other skills (suspecting that it could have been something wrong with the picking locks skill), but everything was the same. Image on the menu didn't change - I still saw the image of last used skill, character acted like she was using the last used skill, I couldn't switch to any other skill or start normal fight with leftclicking and SAVE was unavailable.

I have the latest patch installed.

What's going on??!! Help!

I really don´t know what is wrong. Perhaps the others in the forum do. But did you tryied to reload? What if you quicksave and reload? Just a suggestion. Poor sugestion but I am curious to see if the problem remains after reloading.

First of all, quicksave wasn't available either. Yes, I reloaded without saving (fortunately I saved deliberately just before trying scorpion traps) and tried again, but the problem remained. I restarted the computer and tried again - everything the same

the same thing happend to me Arwena, the only way I could solve the problem was to press the SHIFT KEY and start moving the camera so I can see a door or treasure chest and then click on it just like if you were going to use the lockpick skill, when I did that my character got back to normal.

I hope that work for you too, good luck!!!

Did you right clicked on the scorpions in the trap menu to select them, and if so did the skill icon remain Lockpick?

oops, that's what I meant. I should have removed the 'ed' from 'clicked' after my cut and paste editing, as well.

I was thinking of it a lot yesterday. Do you have any scorpion traps in your inventory? The traps in order to be activated must be in your inventory. Perhaps you have scorpion traps but not with you but in the house you collect things. It is just a thought. Perhaps stupid one

I found that when I activated Lockpick when there was nothing to lockpick, I had an awful time disabling it. I think clicking on an object (not a monster) disables it, particularly if it's out of range.

As for the other problem, I don't know...

It happened on occasion that lockpick was still selected when going into a fight, during this I expected to "restore" myself I ended up trying to lockpick.

Conclusion: once you start an action (lockpick, Flash or whatever, the system expects you to finish this action, so for me the logical thing to to was, stop fighting by left clicking on the ground some meters away from the melee then quickly (or use pause) left click several times with Lock pick unselected, replace the action with restoration and voila, you are ready to fight once more

Yes, first I leftclicked on scorpions that appeared above the belt menu, then I rightclicked. Skill icon remained lockpick.
And of course I had scorpion traps in my inventory.

Hmm you say above the Belt menu?? when I select Deadly gift that will appear in the right click button, situted between browse potions and browse weapons, IF I have scorpion traps in my invebtory, an Icon will appear at the bottom RIGHT of the screen, once I LEFT click on that, the scorpion Icon will then replace the Deadly Gift Icon on the Right click Browse button, I can then Right click to my hearts content and see 20 or so scorpions attacking the various enemies.
Hope this helps Arwena

If that don't work, then yes you have a problem I can only suggest, you keep the savegames, un-install and re-install, if that don't work then you must have a bug in your savegame, which really means a total re-install and a start from scratch.
BTW is your an English or european version??
Also see if you can get some help on the tech support Forum, after all we are only trying to help to the best of out knowledge, and that may just not be good enough

Arkana, here is a pic to explain what Mea Culpa says. Available traps are on the right and the activated scorpion then in the task bar.

Ooh well done Kiya,

Right, my problems with words and describing Trap icons appear just the same way - the icons are a bit above the belt menu and to the right
However, the icon between weapon and potion doesn't switch to deadly gift, no matter which trap icon I click.

I play English version.

Well, if nothing helps, I'll tell it to tech support. At the moment I don't use scorpion traps at all, but I was really looking forward to use them on the graal mummies [Linked Image] [Linked Image] It seems that I won't be able to do it...

Try deleting all of the files in the '..\Divine Divinity\Run\Dynamic' folder.
This folder is used as a cache for the game. Files are created / copied there from the save game folder when you load, and written / copied from that folder when you save a game. The files will be re-created as required the next time you start Divinity. If there was a corrupt file in that folder, deleting the files should fix the problem.

If that doesn't work, try starting a new game and see if the problem persists. Use iZakaroN's SaveEditor to increase your level and constitution, and run to Ars Magicana to buy some scorpion traps from Tingalf. If the new game works, but the latest save does not, there may be a problem in the saved game folder itself. If neither work, it may be a problem with Divinity, in which case re-installing might help.

Zip or otherwise backup your saved games folder to another location first, just in case. Then un-install, re-boot, shut down all non essential programs (especially anti-virus), re-install the game. Re-boot, shut down all non essential programs, install the patch, re-boot, shut down all non essential programs, start the game. This procedure is a bit over-cautious, but the best way to avoid install problems.

Arwena, I hope I am not too late with my reply, and here is what you can do.

Make sure the game is paused between every action you do in the coming list.

Select a melee weapon.
Select special move.
Open your items inventory.
Move the scorpions by dragging them inside the box and pause immediately.
Close the inventory box.
Select the deadly gift, and by the way, all selections are by LEFT CLICKING the mouse.
Select the scorpion trap, and here it must replace the special move skill if you are in the cave of the Holy Grail.
From now on, RIGHT CLICKING beside you on the ground must release scorpions as many as you wish.
Switch back to special move when you are done because you shall definitely need it when the mummies attack you.

Good luck.
