Today I bought Dungeon Siege in order to prepare for and because it was quite cheap.

Does anybody has some (non spoiler) tips for a beginner?

And your opinion towards the game would be interesting too. (please also non spoiler)

Thanx in Advance, bernhard

I havent played it yet but I almost bought it as well. The expansion pack has just come out and not only is it cheap, you get the original game with it!

It looks like you can have pack horses in it, which brings us to the essential point. If you get really hungry can you eat the horse, mmmm, horse. *Has my knife and fork ready*

LOL ok, you will tell me about Morrowind and I wll tell you about DS.

Well I like very much this game. My opoinion you can find it somewere in the forum. I have written about it. If you find it please inform me too because I can´t find the %&##% thread.

Ok First thing to know. Buy a mule. As soon as you can. You will need it. There are many nice things to collect and the mule has plenty of space for you. By the mule from the first place you see. In the other locations the mules are more expensive.

Every class is really good for starting. You can make your choise depending your style. It is not like in that mage is very weak and it is difficult for a beginer to start with. In DS you can be whoever you want. Have no fear.

The first quests you have to do them all alone. It is not so difficult. Gather money. There are pretty good things to buy.

Apart from the people that will join you willingly, you can also hire people to have in your group. So you can make a team of 8 of your choice people eventually. 7 people + 1 the mule = 8. Or you can have as many mules as you want. But for me the best choice is to have one.

Be sure that everyone in your team has in his/her inventory enough mana portions and healing portions. If they don´t you will loose them in battle.

In my team I am a great battle mage (yes I do don´t judge me fro diablo lol), and among others one nature mage. Nature mage is important because he has healling powers and he/she can cast them in all members of your team. When you fight and the hp or mp are low, nature mage will replentish (sp?) enough of both of them with one cast to all members.

If I tell you more, I will spoil everything. One last note. The bosses seem scary but you can kill them pretty easilly.

I will be glad to hear your impresion of the game. Have fun.

I will write anything else I think later but I wont spoil it.

If you have money to burn, why not?

My opinions of DS:

The Good:

- Pretty graphics
- Semi-interesting way of "leveling up"
- Appeals to the Diablo/DiabloII crowd
- Pack mule
- No load time between areas

The So-so:

- Music. Not even particularly noticeable
- Voiceacting

The Ugly:

- The game all but plays itself
- The leveling treadmill is repetitive as heck
- Melee vs. archery balance is so off
- Combat magic vs. nature magic balance is off, too
- Trite storyline
- Little effort to make the storyline anything more than an excuse to go out and slaughter monsters
- NPCs that join your party have all the emotional depth of a very small, very shallow puddle
- Bland, bland quests. Fetch this, kill that; the dialogue's nothing to hoot for, either

Bottom line? I found DS unutterably dull, more so than I found D2. And that's saying something.

I can only agree with winterfox. I found DS one of the most boring games I ever played and never finished.

DS was ok back then when it was my 3rd or 4th or was it 5th RPG(allegedly).

winterfox, u should add another ugly: too big a map with nothing within. that's my biggest gripe as it remind me of diablo2's second act. too big, too empty. mods are better so the community saves the game, just like NWN.

@ janggut

Since you mentioned NWN, I am thinking to purchase it. What is your opinion? It costs 45 €. Shall I buy it ?

@ Bernhard sorry I am

NWN's official campaign is worthless -- the first one is atrocious; the SoU one is better, but still dull. If you buy it, buy it for the modules. I'd be more than happy to recommend you some excellent, mindblowing modules.

i find the first add-on of NWN, shadows of undrentide easier in terms of singleplayer campaign & it actually helps me in understanding D&D rules better than the first.

lucretia, i'm not sure if 45pounds is a bargain or not. there is NWN gold, which has both the first & the shadows of undrentide add-on. u should check that one out instead. wait for the response of others to have a more rounded idea on the game before buying. maybe u can download the demo 2 see if u like it or not?

Hmm. Great to have you people sharing your thoughts. Was still hesitating whether to buy DS or not.
But but maybe addons will be more interesting?
I find impressions on DS similar to impressions on NWN. Single player campaign is weak. And I don't wanna waste time on weak games, even the newest ones.

Look forward to play something RPGish, but it seems there is just nothing interesting atm.

Thanks for all your thoughts.

Here is my opinion after a few hours of playing:

I like the graphics a lot and the game is nice playing, but I really miss quests, where you have to think at least a bit. The whole game is completely linear until now, which I also don´t appreciate a lot.

The game seems too easy, shouldn´t have tried on easy mode... , maybe on normal or hard more challenging.

However, it is nice game and ideal for evenings when I´m a bit tired and don´t want to think a lot before deciding what to do during a game.

I believe with many quests - I mean *real* quests ! - this would've been a great game - but I fear the devs oriented themselves too much on the sales of D2/LOD.
