He said "by", not "with".

As for multiplayer, in general I prefer to play "with" others in Coop mode, but I think there will always be a place for pure single player games.

[edit]Diablo was/is one of the best multiplayer games around IMO. If I were to classify it, though, I would call it an Action RPG. Regarding the roleplaying part of it, there are better games out there, that's for sure.[/edit]

plz..not another editor toolset..that's what killed NWN. The fun part is to find the item not to make it.That's what keep people coming back to the game to look for that one precious items.

Actually, pretty much every multiplayer RPG turns out to be a real Action RPG with little role-playing. I've yet to find an mmorpg with _only_ role-players (or sometimes any at all). Not sure why actually. Even on role-play-servers, most people couldn't resist talking about football or the dinner they just had. Or the opposite were the people who were just playing extreme stereotypes... those can be funny for a few minutes but get boring and predictable fast.

So I think that if we want a role-playing game (with the stress on the role-playing, not on the action), some things will have to be changed or we'll need to see a totally different formula. Maybe it could help to actually give each co-operative player a role in the story-line (or let them choose it).

From far, from eve and morning and yon twelve-winded sky, the stuff of life to knit me blew hither: here am I. Now -for a breath I tarry nor yet disperse apart- take my hand quick and tell me, what have you in your heart.

Asto Diablo2: you are pretty mistaken, diablo2 was THE game of this genre till now, and if you were good at it, which was EXTREMELY hard, u would get elite items that very very few could ever get in touch with, or create chars that were beyond divine, for pvp for instance. And not the mention the markettrading that went on FOR REAL !!! there were even people selling these so called ultra rare items for real money; can you belief that ?? just to demonstrate how furiously they were wanted.

This paragraph makes Jesus kill innocent kittens, makes a benevolent saint murder newborn babies, makes a happy man in a fine autumn morning slit his wrist, and makes dragons turn vegetarians. All in the name of lost faith in humanity.

It, most of all, made me laugh my head off. And I died. I'm typing this from the afterlife.

For real inter-player economy, kindly venture into the Bazaar zone in EverQuest. Witness as people try to cut each other's price and spam their heads off in hope to sell their items. Behold as people quarrel over phat lewtz and guilds break because of this. Gape at how much time you have to devote to this game to attend, or host, a raid in order to get said phat lewtz (gather 35 players, spend at least five hours for preparation alone). Hacking rarely happens, and if you do try, your account gets suspended. Most of the time, hacking is impossible. Oh -- and do a search on EBay. Count the number of EQ accounts for sale.

Diablo, in the aspects that you have selected to mention in order to make yourself look "elite" or "skilled", is a sad joke. Thanks for the laugh, though.

I don't want to seem elite, just wanting to point out that when giving special attention to rare or unique items in multiplayer, You automaticly create a movement among your players that is enthusiast to find them. Don't you see the dreams in their eyes ? Gazing in dreams of: Oh i wish i had that item !!! From that moment on the player has but one goal to obtain that item, with as result the obsessive mining behaviour as stated before. And indeed with all mephisto runs and stuff as a result. The thing about the market in Diablo2 was that these items got worth so much that it nearly could be sold for real money, and from the moment such importance is attracted, you get all the negative actions, such as duping and stuff (which was very sad, i lost a few stuff this way IF Larian decides to go multiplayer, this could be something they could look at (items), because it is the main succes to multiplayer option aswell in pvp (player vs player) aswell in multiplay. But the negative action is a thing well to be considered at in Larian Studios.

I am sorry i made Jesus cry !!
sniff

Last week I decided to re-play Divinity again. Some days later a friend came along with his comp for a small LAN. I was just in the game - Oh boy, in that moment I thought how cool it would be to go back to the mainmenu, select "Multiplayer", create a game, let my friend join and play together -We decided to play a NWN mod (which was also nice).

What I wanted to say is, that there are great single player games out there but the option to play them together with other peoples is worth tons of gold IMO.

I like having One RPG out there that has no multiplayer aspect. BG2 has it, Arcanum has it, ect. I like having a game that allows me to sit down, and play by myself. Maybe I am just wierd...

Did you try Gothic or Gothic 2 ? No multiplayer and I hope it will never give one.

If your German is good enough: play the German version. It seems to be bugfree meanwhile...

Maybe you played ist not long enough to learn how adequate the system is.

I like the keyboard and mouse control system. I use the mouse for the viewing direction and the keyboard for anything else. You can hit in different ways and you can block. For me it is one of the bests controls for such a game I ever used.

Morrowind and Ultima 9 are a bit too simple for me. And ...what is the name of that game you can play as 4 different charakters barbarian, knight, archer and ?, you can learn a lot of combos for your weapons, each having a different key combination ...(Severance) is too difficult for me. But Gothic, exactly right for me.

An opinion is an opinion that why I wanted the demo

though I tend to get annoyed if they try to do too much with the keyboard or too much with the mouse. Silver was a nice medium but a little too "trick" fighting style I hate tryign to do something JUST right to get a good attack, I'm no longer young and have the time or patience for that nonsence or jump puzzles... Maybe when it is closer to release they'll put out an english demo.

Purple_Heart Said:

Actually i broke my diablo2 cd into pieces for TWO reason; i got a bit bored after playing it well over 1/2 a year intensely and having collected most of the 'Elite ultra rare items' !! and two, i played it so much and so intensely that i felt my life was being neglected

What broke the CD? NOOooooo.... I made a modder program for it so that I could easily alter the main aspects so it'd get boring slower. new wepons and such and me and my wife are on another go... It is one of the few games she can play so I'll never toss it...

Well, I played Diablo II on-line for a few years, had 17 accounts, 2x Diablo II and 3x Lord of Destruction (the expansion). Wasted a total of 17*5 euro's on that. But I got sick of the game, because half (did I say half?? I meant 99/100) of the players being n00b or addicted scammer. Well, I sold my accounts to pathetic freaks and item shops (like d2lodshop.com - now who the hell pays 300 euro's for an armor o_O) and I made over 2000 euro's by doing that. (eBay + 'friends' + item shops).

I had a GREAT time (well, first collecting items was great... later on, making fun out of total incompetent n00bs and scamming the scammers was most of the fun )
My best friend still plays it, but he's planning to sell his items too, because the economy is falling apart. The guy from D2lodshop (also a friend, he lives only a few kilometers from here ) is willing to pay almost 2500 euro's.

Isn't that just insane? What people would do for virtual gear?
Look at the asian news papers...
someone killed his best friend because that friend sold his sword... a gang tortured and killed a guy who killed the gangleader his character in a game (where you just ressurect and continue your journey, without ANY loss)

The world is going crazy, and there's nothing we can do about it.
