I was doing some searching on the internet today when I found
this website.
Basically, the first site is about how much the guy hates Lana Lang, and why he hates her.
OK, here's the deal. I hate Lana Lang. With a passion. Now, there are some in the newsgroup that seem to think this is some sort of knee-jerk reaction, but truly it's not. I've given it a lot of thought. I've pondered. I've soul-searched. But the hatred remains.
For those who don't know who Lana Lang is, she is FICTIONAL character on a FICTIONAL television show. She is NOT REAL. However, this person is not going to let a thing such as reality get in the way of common sense.
I can understand disliking a character in a book, or a television show, but to have "given it a lot of thought. I've pondered. I've soul-searched. But the hatred remains," is just taking a television show *way* too seriously.
Soul searching is what you do when you find out your significant other has been cheating on you, and you're trying to decide whether or not to leave them or stick by them and give them another chance.
This led to the creation of
this website.
A surprising (to me at least) number of "Smallville" fans have turned their anger towards the lovely Lana Lang. I was aghast at the venomous comments being slung around about Lana in alt.tv.smallville after each episode. Where was all this misdirected anger coming from and why was it being heaped upon poor Lana?
For me, the final straw was the inception of BLaMM, a nasty little page with the dubious distinction of possibly being the first anti-Lana site on the net. The site is unabashed hatred focused on poor Lana Lang. They feel her meteor missed and that she should've been killed in the opening sequence of the premiere!
I was at a loss and desperate to do something, when an Anonymous ATSer suggested I form DOLL - Defenders Of Lana Lang. This was it! I got started and formed this site.
Great, you just stuck up for a television character on the interent. I bet your parents can die happy now knowing you've done such a great thing with your life.
Cripes! It's PHRIGGING TELEVISION SHOW! If some jerkwad on the internet doesn't like the same thing you like, then TOUGH. Why do you care? Like what you like, and don't let someone who is no more than mere text in your world ruin it for you.
I like Smallville, but I think the central character the series is built around is a complete and totally clueless moron. Clark Kent walks around as if he's had plastic surgery to put a constant look of "Duh?" on his face.
If someone else thinks he's a Rhodes Scholar in terms of intelligence, and wants to do a tribute to him, then fine. I won't care. It's not gonna change my mind about the fact Clark is a moron.
I like the character of Lana Lang. She's the second coolest character on the show, behind Lex who oozes coolness like fat linemen ooze sweat.
Lana reminds me of two people in my life. Her looks remind me of an old best friend from high school, and her personality reminds me of my current best friend. I like my friends, and I like being reminded of them. Usually, because if I start thinking about certain friends of mine, I end up remembering something I was supposed to do involving them, that I otherwise would have forgotten, such as calling them back.
The fact soneone else put up a lame website so haters can get together and have thrilling conversations about such topics as "How much Lana sucks!" isn't going to change my opinion, nor is it going to cause me to spend a lot of time figuring out coding so I can do a lame website in response.
What it will cause me to do spend an hour (with fifteen minutes for typing, and fourty-five for proof reading because I'm an anal retentive prick) writing up some lame expose about how some people take television way more seriously than can possibly be mentally healthy.
