From: Beyond Divinity preview on Warcry site [03/07/2004]:
"Beyond Divinity may be the first attempt ever to cross the blueprint of the buddy film with a traditional fantasy RPG.The interaction between both characters is exploited fairly effectively. Whenever you meet other characters, the knight frequently gives his rather tactless opinions, which generally involve ignoring or slaughtering people in trouble. The real question is will you be able to steer him towards the lighter side?...
"...No one can match Larian's insane attention to detail right now, and they are obviously committed to the Divine Universe, as they are heavily hinting Divine Divinity 2 will follow on from Beyond Divinity. With a combat system that looks to develop into something rich, deep and enjoyable and a truly original plot, the game looks to be perfectly ready to take on Ascaron Entertainment?s Sacred in the coming months....
Gameplay:
Hard to judge, yet promises to develop more as the game progresses. Two controllable characters at once also give it an edge.
Graphics:
The engine has obviously been improved. More color would be nice in places, but again not that much to complain about here.
Sound:
Fantastic musical score. Please turn the voice acting off now.
Interface:
Incredibly useful mini map and a minimal HUD that works means most of the screen is devoted to the action. Good job.
Entertainment:
As already mentioned, will be squaring up with Ascaron Entertainment's Sacred. No multiplayer might hurt it, but it should please any action-RPG fans out there.
Sound:
Fantastic musical score. Please turn the voice acting off now."
