I called my local EB and GameStop... both of them said "I've never heard of that game"

What's wrong with these people?

I guess I better be prepared to have a hard time finding it. However! On the plus side, Beyond Divinity is actually listed on the Best Buy website... which is pretty rare. So there maybe be some opportunity there.

I just got back from my local Best Buy, and Melody (who is always very helpful) checked the system to see if they had been listed as "in store" -- meaning in the back but not stocked. Came up empty. She did tell me they normally get their games shipments on Wednesdays, and had them up Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning. So I'm just gonna go by every day and see if they have it.

Of course, if they don't have it by this weekend and can't give me a date, I'm gonna just order it from the BestBuy website.

As for what's wrong with these people? Obvious lack of hipness.

Was Melody cute? That's a reason to go every day by itself!

Anyway... Best Buy always gets stuff later than EB and GameStop, but this might be a close call as to who gets it first. This is the first time I've seen a game that I wanted listed on their web site BEFORE it was released.

Sacred is still not listed on there, for example... and it was a great game.

Melody's cute, but Jerrod is more my flavor. He just wasn't working this morning....

I've always had pretty good luck getting games at Best Buy. But normally I don't try to purchase on the first day. I guess that's a testament to how much I'm looking forward to BD!!

Oops. Didn't realize you're female... I guess Melody probably doesn't hold much interest for ya then.

Good to know there are women that are going to play Beyond Divinity. I think the ability to pick a female version for any main character was a good move by Larian... that really opens up the audience. I know my wife REFUSES to play any game in which she has to play some hot sweaty guy running around killing stuff...

I'm with her! I like being female, why should I play a guy? And if I want to play with a guy, I got one right here by my side.

My one big exception to this: Deus Ex. Had to play a guy to play the game. LOVED LOVED LOVED that game. (I still get spooked by the security cameras in banks...) So it was with glee and joy I learned Deus Ex: Invisible War let you choose a female avatar. So I'm a happy happy "Ms. Alex Denton", confused but sexy butt-kicking cybabe.

Oh, BTW, I saw in another thread that the games should be on the store shelves here by April 30. Woohoo!

I don't care wether the main character is male of female, but I do have to admit, that I seem to enjoy games more if I'm playing as a male character, because I can more easily get into the game. Especially if the game involves talking... I like my main character to have a male voice.

But in multiplayer shooting games, sometimes I choose a female player model, because they're thinner, and therefor harder to hit. Or maybe it just seems as if they're harder to hit... Either way, with a female model and a name like "coolgirl23", people treat you differently. And they get more frustrated when you are kicking their asses. :P

I second that! Games who don't offer the option to play female main characters suck... Or, some of them probably don't, but I tend to loose interest. Much more fun with the long hair and the pretty dresses (or something like that...)

Us girls play computer games too..

I'm actually a programmer in the game industry. I sometimes pitch in on the game design meetings and as soon as there's talk about the main character I always point out that there needs to be a female version. It's not always practical unfortunately.

There's so many more sales to be had if the game is easily accessable to women. I hope some day that all games can have a female main character, at least as an option. Besides we need more women in the game industry! I work a company with 40 employees... and there's only ONE woman, and she's the office manager / receptionist.

Men tend to be less picky... I can play a game as a female main character (except for in MMORPG's, but I have male co-workers that play females, even when they have the option to play males).

Anyway, that's my take on it... congrats to Larian be putting in female versions of every class.

I mean, there are many women out there that won't play a game if the only option is to play a male character. If there's an option to play a female character, you might sell more copies because more woman will buy it as well.

Speaking of main characters, there's one particular original game that might appeal both sexes, because the main character is... YOU.

It's called LifeLine, and it's coming out for PS2 only later this year.

The story of the game is that there was a major catastrophe on a space station, and you get locked up in the monitor room. Looking through the monitors you see a woman who also survived the catastrophe. You have to use a (real) microphone to give orders to her, and tell her what to do, because technically, you don't control her, you just give her orders by talking to her. Stuff like "open the door" or "pick up the gun" or "take a shower" (although she refuses to take a shower :P), while you look through surveillance cameras.

It's quite amazing really, and if Konami could pull it off aswell, this could be a great game. The first game that is played with a microphone only.

Anyway, I'm losing my point. There should be more games like this.

You know, I've never actually refused to play a game just because it featured a male character, but when given the choice to create, I've never made/played a male character. I like to project myself into the game, and especially with an RPG, it's more...ME..if the character is female.

Umm, it's already out. A guy here showed it to us the other day. It works "ok" but if you don't speak exactly right it tends to mess up and do dumb things

I don't agree with you. If the woman likes the game, she will buy it even if there is only male characters.

I played the demo of Divine Divinity with a male character and i bought the game later.

Female gamers are not different of male gamers.

My wife won't play a game if it's a male character

Then again, she's really picky, and I guess I shouldn't classify her as a true gamer. I would say that there are hardcore gamers that don't care about the gender, and there are casual gamers that do. The casual female gamer market is an untapped resource. There's at least one game I know of that appeals to casual female gamers... The Sims. And it's sold bizillion copies.

Be happy to have a wife who likes PC games like you.

She didn't like PC games when I met her, but after about 5 years she's finally warming up to a few games. She likes PS2 games more because she can relax in the living room and play instead of being in the hot stuffy computer room.

You've never played the Sims? Wow. I didn't think there was a person left on earth that hadn't tried it.

Anyway, this thread went WAY off topic

Definitely. The EB website has changed their status from "Pre-Release" to "Usually ships in 24 hours" so maybe some of the stores have it! I'll call around...
