I thought the ending was lacking something, like finishing the story with the person carrying the baby, WHAT?????? Where did this kid come from or did the game mention it and I just missed because I didn't do all of the quests. HEHEHEH

I guess having a rep of 10 didn't help me figure out the full story, oh well.

Any thoughts on the ending of this half full-half empty RPG. I mean half-full and half-empty in that, I finished the game thinking there could have been lots more that wasn't included in the story.

I would have never thought that the language of pure image is so hard to understand. We have to think about that in the future...

MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD!

Ascension "Blessing" cutscene
After you got sacrificed by the council of seven your spirit awakes in a divine realms on an altar. Around you the ideas of the seven gods are manifesting. You can roughly separate impish, human, elven or orcish gods...
Everyone of them grabs into their chest and puts a small part of the heart into your weightless shape. After you received all blessing the in you is fully developed and so her wings grow and she flies up to the mortal plane where she descends as the reborn hero into the wastelands.

Extro scene
You see the demon of lies dying. In fact you see the mutiliated body of janus ripped into pieces and the leftover, the sword of lies, remains. It comes closer and tries to seduce the hero. The hero is tempted to take it but refuses and sends it back to hell away from the mortal plane.
Then the hero hears the cries of the baby. Knowing that it is the lord of chaos inside the child he/she draws the dagger to kill it. In the hero's moral struggle to kill a neborn innocent child the scene fades out.
Much later you see the hero walk out victorious into the swamp area. He carries something. Loot? The child? You don't know for sure...
Somewhere on a distant hill Arhu and Zandalor watch you coming when suddenly the statue you lifted up in the sky while entering the katacombs of aleroth comes down finally...(side joke, nothing more)

Well that just tells me what the ending was, but there are so many questions left in the air that I want DD2, if they make a next one, tomorrow.

Good ending is becoming rarity lately. Recently i had a pleasure to see the ending of final fantasy 8, well, boss fight was impressive (with 4 transformations), and as a reward for saving the world, you get to see few movies, so you can just sit back and watch it for like... 5 or 10 minutes. That's the way endings should be, IMO.

I think the fact you can polymorph the demon of lies into a frog serverely reduces his credibility. I mean come on, one minute he raising minions to smack you down, the next minute? *rrrrribbbit* his cowering in the corner. I never seen a boss so...well...piss weak. Quite amusing tho

Whew I just finished the game today. All told I spent about 100 hours playing this puppy hehe

I agree with everyone else that the ending was too abrupt. I'd like to have had a conversation scene with Zandalor or Ahru. And I never understood the falling statue until I read that post from Marian.

I guess I have to wait for DD2 to have the rest of my questions answered.

I wasnt exactly impressed by the end dungeon/end game or game as a whole. I beat the whole end dungeon in about 45 minutes from start to finish (with my wife nagging me to get the grill started) with the hellspikes/multiple enemies tactic. There was content lacking replaced by ALOT of things to kill... same things.. over and over. There was no demand for strategy, no challenge. Everthing was one of two templates, it either cast a spell at you or it runs up and tries to hit you. They all had a little different shell but if you blurr your vision its the same thing all the way through. What was odd is that after I realized the power of hellspikes that the only thing that slowed me down (actually kept me from takin the game on at a running pace) was loss of stamina, to which I countered by investing in tons of stamina potions. I didnt use any cheats at all during the whole game accept for reloading infront of merchants to get the charms I wanted. I ended up with 4-5 slots in every peice of armor and only mana/hp charms and one each of gold resistance charms. I had 1400hp and 1900mana as a mage in the end. I could go a looooooong time on a resto potion. The last battle was so easy that I decided to do it nekkid (yep, thats right, threw all my gear on the ground). It took me 17 seconds instead of 13 and 10 restoration potions instead of 2. There are things I could have done to make the game harder, but I cant really respect my accomplishments unless there was a demand for sound strategy, quick decisions, and overall good gamemenship. Things I did like:
-Graphics
-Character diversity
-Humor in the content (what little content there was).

I have an open mind, and I am in no way critizing the gamemakers because in truth my letdown is my own fault, I should have researched the game more and realized it was just a "hack-n-slash" rather than a strategy type RPG. In a perfect world, I'd have the game just the way it is with more content and more strategy.

EDIT: Typo's .. ooopsie.

Yuo are the other one else than me who shares the same sentiments.
is not going to be what we wish to have as pure strategy pleasure offering game along with RPG style.
Yet from what I read so far it is going to be a more enjoyable "hack-n-slash".

It is very difficult to create a game with very clever strategy and riddle content because it demands the ultimate talents and intellects to produce such a rewarding experience. I recall that a game maker consulted some psychology professors to advise the game designer on eye trickery and human response challenging. That is what I call professional production. Yah. Cheers.

Listen up ye olde critics. Divine Divinity is a CRPG, not a strategy game. If you wanted a strategy game that has roleplay elements, try Age of Wonders 1 and 2 (and soon Shadow Magic), which is a purely turn-based strategy game that is difficult on higher difficulty AI and extremely difficult when you play against other human players. There are also other strategy games like Warcraft and Heroes of Might and Magic that might interest you. But for the CRPG genre, the only remotely tactical game I can think of is Baldur's Gate I and II, and even then all the strategy is in doing more damage, finding the most powerful magic items and firing off the most damaging spells while casting some protective spells. For what it was, a CRPG, Divine Divinity did superbly. If you want strategy, look no further than Age of Wonders -- but the storyline will be rather lackluster...
