Hi, I bought the UK version of BD today. First off I played DD but stopped at the point where I'd rang all the bells near the end of the game, and never finished. Could someone summarise what happens after that point, so I have all the plot ready for this new game? In the new game I'm playing the same character I was as in the first game, right? Any recommendations for character classes? I was thinking of my char as a wizard, and the death knight as a warrior, but I don't want to miss out on all the locked chests and doors that I'm sure will be in the game...
Also could someone explain the difference in the difficulty levels please.... it doesn't seem to be the standard 'normal, easy and hard'.
I'm also wondering about character creation - I have the option to select a child as my character, does this affect the game at all, or is it simply a matter of appearence?
Finally, is there a button to press that highlights all the clickable items on screen, like ALT in diablo 2?
REALLY finally, is there an estimation on how big the game is compared to DD? Longer, shorter?
TIA

Hi everyone, I'm new here and am desperately hoping to get my sweaty little paws on a copy of BD before the weekend.

Mr Teatime, lessee if I can help a bit. My old computer had a meltdown when I was just a little further than you in DD, I lost all my savegames and never finished either , so can't help you with the plot, BUT I don't think it matters. From what I've read you play a different character in the same world as DD was set in. It's a whole new storyline. More of a DD 1.5 than a DD 2 as I've read somewhere. I don't think playing as a child affects anything other than appearance (kinda weird playing a child, I think!).

I'm planning on playing as a wizard and a warrior too. There's bound to be spells you can use to open stuff if a bit of good ol' fashioned bashing doesn't do the trick.

Maybe someone else can help you out on the difficulty. I'm kinda confused on that one myself.

A question for you: are you in the UK? If so, where did you get a copy? I've been ringing stores today and nobody seems to have any. Amazon's not shipping til tomorrow, but I want the game for the weekend.

I got the novella thing with the game and have read the first couple of pages, it's confusing but I think that you play as a child raised by the Divine One (your character in the first game). I could have actually got the game yesterday (Wednesday) but forgot... there's a store here (sheffield) that sells games as soon as they get them in stock, regardless of release dates, and I use them.
Some more notes: I never played the demo but the first area of the game the game runs really slowly. Not choppy, just really slow... like the characters are running in slow motion. This changes when I go to the tunnels or something and there's less to display on screen - then they run quickly. This is annoying, as I have a 3Ghz P4 and Radeon 9700 pro so it really shouldn't be running like this. Plus it doesn't seem jerky, just like they're running through treacle. Any advice?

Another question: I read lockpicking isn't that useful in this game, are there always keys for every locked item? If so I'll find the keys and ignore the lockpicking skill. Though on the very first screen I can't find the key for that chest that's outside your cell. Voice acting is great. Death Knight is overacted but the other voice acting is high quality.

The bells you ring to summon the council of seven? If so, they appear and start a ritual where you go through the land of the dead to get the blessing of the 7 gods and become to the divine one. During the ritual janus and his minions appear in the summoning chambers and slaughter all the council cept 2 members (I think its 2). It takes you about 3 months to find your way out of the lands of the dead because the council was suppose to summon you back.

Anyways, when you get back you've become a demi god and bam wham kill the final boss. But you are too late. The Prince of lies (was that his name? I forgot) was already summoned into a small boy. You couldnt bring yourself to kill the boy ( the prince of lies) so you carry him in your arms out of the dungeon. The end. Also, you are not the same character in BD as in DD. In BD you are a paladin serving the divine one.

Yes, Beyond Divinity is a different story in the same Universe.
The continuation of the Divine Divinity story will be in Divine Divinity II.

Ok can you answer some of my other questions... anyone know why it's so slow ? If the resolution is at 1280x960 the game gets really slow... characters move like they're running through treacle.... at 1024x768 it's all fine. Changing anti aliasing doesn't seem to have any affect, I think it's turned on but every time I go into the config menu the AA setting is back at 0.... I really want the higher resolution becuase 1024x768 on my 21" monitor doesn't look good.
also where is the key for the chest in the area with all the cells that you start in? i can't find it..... oh and is lockpicking useful in this game, i have heard that you can always find a key nearby so it's not worth investing skill points.... TIA

Have you checked for updated video drivers? Do you shut down all non-essential programs (especially anti-virus) before starting the game?

The key to that chest is in the left spider cell in the arena, at the end of the first level.

A bit more on the end of Divinity, posted by Marian in another topic;

I would have never thought that the language of pure image is so hard to understand. We have to think about that in the future...

MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD!

Ascension "Blessing" cutscene
After you got sacrificed by the council of seven your spirit awakes in a divine realms on an altar. Around you the ideas of the seven gods are manifesting. You can roughly separate impish, human, elven or orcish gods...
Everyone of them grabs into their chest and puts a small part of the heart into your weightless shape. After you received all blessing the in you is fully developed and so her wings grow and she flies up to the mortal plane where she descends as the reborn hero into the wastelands.

Extro scene
You see the demon of lies dying. In fact you see the mutiliated body of janus ripped into pieces and the leftover, the sword of lies, remains. It comes closer and tries to seduce the hero. The hero is tempted to take it but refuses and sends it back to hell away from the mortal plane.
Then the hero hears the cries of the baby. Knowing that it is the lord of chaos inside the child he/she draws the dagger to kill it. In the hero's moral struggle to kill a neborn innocent child the scene fades out.
Much later you see the hero walk out victorious into the swamp area. He carries something. Loot? The child? You don't know for sure...
Somewhere on a distant hill Arhu and Zandalor watch you coming when suddenly the statue you lifted up in the sky while entering the katacombs of aleroth comes down finally...(side joke, nothing more)
