If I insert a disk to allow play, my system halts. If I start the machine with disk in the drive, game searches the disk for several minutes then returns a panel asking for a disk key but no disk key came with the game. If I ask for help on the disk key panel, I get a fatal error.

My system is Win98 SE PIII 866 with 512MB memory and GForce2 video card. I can play Divine Divinity with no problems on this machine (and a lot of other games too). The patch was installed before trying to start the game.

Any help would be appreciated.

Do you have disk 2 in the drive? That is the play disk the copy protection is looking for.

If I use Disc 2, the disk checking progress bar gets about 1/3 the way across and then halts the computer.

I don't mind disabling security to install but I can not disable security on this broadband system to play.

By the way, the demo played perfectly.

How long did you wait? Some people have had the first disk check take a long time, but after that the disk verification is faster. ...hm that seems to be during install, though;

Serious Problem With Installation

If you run a full virus scan before playing, you don't need a real time virus scan while you are playing. Unless you are using the computer as a router, unplugging the ethernet cable is much more secure than a firewall. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> Of course that doesn't really matter if conflicts with background programs are not part of the problem.

If the disc protection check fails, you can do 2 things:

1) try another cdrom driver
2) mail support@larian.com, we can help, but it won't be until monday (weekend..)

I have read through a lot of the other posts and conclude that there is a serious problem with the copy protection scheme used on this game. Fortunately I have a 14 day grace period in which to return it for a refund which I plan to do.

A real dissappointment. I have enjoyed many hours playing DD and looked forward to the new game. I will look in at the forums in a month or so to see if you issue another patch and then buy and try again.

Too bad.
